So driving into work tonight i entered an intersection on an orange light, halfway through the lights flicked to red and immediately two flashes went off.

Now i haven't had anything other then parking fines so i don't have experience with sort of thing, does anyone know how you go about fighting such a charge? I'm 100% sure the light was orange.

i think i'm good for speed though its unknown as my speedo is ******.

but can they actually ping you for entering on the orange? i was halfway through the intersection when it went red.

If it flashed then it has picked you up crossing the white line after it turned red, 2nd one is to determine your speed. I've been through this and didn't win

so basically they just assume their tech is working correctly and i some how have to prove otherwise?

If you go to court, you'll have to get a lawyer to request calibration report etc. on the camera to prove it hadn't been recently calibrated which is probably your only possible defence unless you are running a dashcam. If you 100% believe you are right then it's worth fighting on principle imo.

As a first step I'd request the photo to make sure it was your car and not someone else's that might have triggered the camera. I think they charge you $20 or something?

$405 and 3 points ouch!.......... next time i'm just slamming on the brakes and will use this fine as a defence when someone plow's into me

my only infraction was for something like yours and now i never risk it.

Few years ago i went through a intersection and about halfway through two flashes went off and i didn't see anyone behind me but no notice came in the mail so just wait it out before you receive the fine in the mail.

Technically (in Victoria, and I believe NSW as well) going through on a yellow light is illegal. It actually means you have to stop, if you can safely do so.
57 Stopping for a yellow traffic light or arrow
(1) A driver approaching or at traffic lights showing a
yellow traffic light must stop—
(a) if there is a stop line at or near the traffic
lights and the driver can stop safely before
reaching the stop line—as near as practicable
to, but before reaching, the stop line; or
...etc

So technically you could be booked for going through on a yellow (by a cop etc) but I think the traffic cams only detect on red.

If you are certain you had already entered the intersection then you should be fine.

Happened to me a few years ago where I was in a hurry, sped up through the intersection and got done. When I got the fine I got done for the red light and speeding. Was something close to a 800 fine. Now I knew I was speeding but I was sure the light was yellow when I went through. Rang up the department and got the guy to look at the photo. He agreed that the light was still yellow but said I was speeding (which I was 70km perhaps). Got the fine reduced to just for the speeding.

Do all red lights have cameras or just select ones?

selected, Usually hot spots.
