Which means that one of the 2 results that would get them the Shield is off the table so they can’t rely on the draw if things go pear shaped in the chase, of course they can still come back and win it by chasing down this large total on this pitch but that doesn’t change the fact they have made it ridiculously hard for themselves today and history is against them now.

There’s only been 8 successful 4th innings run chases in the last 30 years of Shield finals and only 2 over 200 with 224 in 2000/01 the highest total chased down over that period.

Grinded it out really well late in the day in tough bowling conditions. McAndrew finishes with 40 wickets for the season, Doggett with an 11fa in the match.

Would need to see cracks appearing in this pitch for me to be fearful of not chasing 270. Thought we batted better in the trickier conditions on day one, so no reason to think we can’t be better than Queensland now.
