I think Regurgitator were the most interesting australian act at the turn of the millenium, a lot of diversity in their music. Grunge, 80's synth pop, rap, electronic, punk, etc. Deserve to be better remembered than they currently are. Their first 4 albums was a decent run. A lot of the fanbase had moved on by the time Mish Mash came though, I personally think the first greatest hits Jingles was perfect and ended my era of Regurgitator listening.

Even if you saw them as somewhat of a gimmick, they were immensely talented and could write great songs in their sleep. Around the time of Unit, they seemed unstoppable.

Big fan of the Gurge in fact had Jingles playing last night, both my young girls love it. Favorite songs would have to be The Song Formally Known As, Black Bugs & Everyday Formula.

P.s good to see another Gero person(I am ex Gero) on Big Footy.

Regurgitator were the band that turned me away from mainstream music when i was entering my teenage years, so they'll always have a special place in my heart. I agree they're terribly underrated. They were never content with one style of music, which I think might have alienated some fans in an era where Aussie bands pretty much had a genre and stuck to it (I'm thinking Powderfinger, Grinspoon, Jebediah, etc.). Also love the fact that they never took themselves too serious, but were still capable of biting social commentary.

I saw them play their Tu-Plang and Unit back to back last week at the Hi-fi bar and it was amazing. They get better every time I see them perform and really seem to be enjoying themselves.

They're still producing music and though it's a bit hit and miss these days they still come out some gems. If anyone hasn't heard All Fake Everything give it a listen, it's pretty much vintage Gurge (and the first minute is a pisser). Yes the video is terrible.

5. Like It Like That
6. Virtual Life

8. Track 1
9. My Ego
= 10. Just Another Beautiful Story
= 10. Blubber Boy

well said!
and yeah, that is a cracking tune.. but most of that album sounded like demo's. maybe that's what they were going for but it really lacked that great songcraft that they had. Mish Mash was their last good album and ...art was the last great one. But.. it was a great run!

Gig of the year for mine ....... they were just spot on and were really having a good time.
In hindsight its easy to forget they were definitly taking some risks when they started out with what they were writing/playing and it sure paid off.

great band....

I always think of them a bit the same way I thought of Ween...fun, adventurous, risk-taking, as often as not crude and piss-taking, irreverent lyrics...but always great, honest, creative, well crafted music at the heart of it

1. Black Bugs
2. Everyday Formula
3. Happiness
4. I Sucked a lot of ****
5. Fat Cop
6 Superstraight

etc etc

Good thread; the 'Gurge have definitely one of the more interesting Australian bands.
alsom, when Quaan slips into emcee mode he is one of the few Australian rappers that I enjoy listening to, clever wordplay.
the whole Band in a Bubble thing was interesting also ..
my crappy band actually got to support them at the end of 2010 (for one gig), I had a bit of a chat with Ben Ely before we played, he was exactly how you'd think he'd be, a pretty chilled guy.

nice work
yeah bens songs are ace. he is great at the straight up pop rockers.

to be honest, when they were bigger and receiving a lot of exposure (i.e. between Tu-Plang-Art, which is a good run in anyones book), I was never much of a fan of Ben's songs when compared to Quan's ... but upon revisiting their stuff a couple of years ago I found a new appreciation for what he brings to the group; and band's with multiple songwriters are always of interest to me too for some reason ..
