After seeing some of the game on Tuesday night it is not that far away before this boy should get a taste of AFL football.

He impressed me with his general movement and agility around the field.

I have no doubt that Ivan and Meese are the future Adelaide rucks.

Eventually their talent will mean that they will have to be picked.

it is clear now why Jimmy and the boys went for this boy.

He could be anything.

Now we just need to get him playing for Norwood to the point where he demands to be picked because of consistent quality performances.

Agree it’s time to unleash the Meese but I highly doubt he will be picked this season or next, so look for him to get a game in 18 months

Re: Release the Meese - Part 2

Yes - an exciting talent...just ask Drummond... :p .

I'm looking forward to the era when Liam and Evaarn are ripping the opposition apart......but with Maric just ahead of Meese....and Rock due back in round 19ish......Liam will need to start dominating if he is to make his AFL debut this year. At the moment he is contributing at Norwood but his form is not demanding a promotion, despite some of the reviews we read here.

Rock>Dirty Dancer>Clarke>Ivan>Meese

Yep the Meese wont play until next year.

Gee boys i liked what I saw. The carrot in my opinion should be dangled at some time in the year if his form is good enough.

We did it last year with VB and Knighter.

We have done it this year with Ivan, JP and Vince.

I would like to see both Dougie and Meese getting a game before seasons end to give them a sniff at this level. Dougie may run out of time now with his injury.

Give them a taste and they will want more!!!!

I would hope not year of the cat. In my own opinion he is the best of our rucks in terms of potential two years down the track.

Clarke is likely to retire at years end - due to age, younger players coming through and freeing up of cash for list.

Huddo - unknown quantity - often bigmen do not come back from knee injuries well (Primus, Rehn and Darcy).

Biglands - our best ruckman this year and improving as a shock forward from time to time. But he is 28.

Maric - showing some very good signs. Love his work ethic.

I see a place for the Meese provided he can add some KPP skills to his armoury.

Griffen may be a trade option. He has a lot of potential, but he has found it difficult to get into the Centrals lineup atm. He is 200cm tall and some Melbourne clubs could be in need of some height desperately. He is 5th in the list for AFC.

Difficult to say this year - but we need to have one eye on the future as well as one eye on the present.

I would just ease him in for one or two games if cirumstances permit and his form warrants selection.

It will be tough though - but we need to keep him interested and motivated.

First step - getting him onto the emergencies list if his form demands it.

From what I've been told a couple of Melbourne clubs have already been in touch with his management.

Would be disappointing to lose him but maybe the crows will utilise that to gain the services of a Sellar, Gibbs or Gumbleton.

Being a Geelong boy I reckon one of those clubs was probably the cats - will be interested to see whether he stays in Schmadelaide or comes back home....

Pretty sure you'd be correct.

Re: Release the Meese - Part 2

I have a feeling if he has to wait 18 months before getting an AFL game, he will be making his debut at another club. I know some will say, big guys take longer, and they do, but he wont see it that way. He would be expecting to get a game this season and if he doesnt, and Maric, Biglands and Hudson are all deemed to be in front of him at the end of the season, I reckon he'll demand a trade. To be honest I wouldnt blame him either. There are teams who have less depth in the ruck that will play him straight away, and he will be thinking playing SANFL for another season will stall his development. He will feel that needs to be stepping up a grade, not going stagnant or treading water in the SANFL. I think its a real worry.

Id take the cats first pick.

In this draft it'd probably be either of.

Geelong 2nd rounder + fringe player for Meesen

or

Geelong 1st rounder for Adelaide's 2nd rounder + Meesen

I'd rather do the second option but Geelong would much rather the first.

Geelong aren't the only ones interested anyway (or so I'm told)

Meeson was pick 8 in a weaker draft, but that draft had great ruckman in there. Where would Meeson be at if he was in this years draft? I would think Meeson would get a top 10 pick in this draft at least after 2 years of development.

I agree with all of this. Both Meesen & Douglas have shown enough to be given at least a 1 game taster before the end of the season, as it gives them an idea of how much more they need to do.

I doubt Clarke will play every game this season, so next time (after this break) he doesn't play, bring in Meesen.

Re: Release the Meese - Part 2

I would not want to trade Meesen unless he wanted to leave AFC. IMO, he will be our best ruckman since Rehn. Griffen is looking excess to requirements though.

I agree

I don't think every victorian is like Fergus "cry me a river, oh I broke my leg" Watts

10 - 20 in this years draft IMO.

Not this year!!! Andrew Mackie may want to come home....

:thumbsd: Pass.

Meesen for Mackie straight swap is outta the question. Meesen will be a top five ruckman at AFL level for 8-10 years. You know it, I know it, that's why you're interested. So is your club. First off Meese needs to clarify if he wants to head back to sleepy hollow and IF he does then adequate compensation will be paid. Neither club would screw each other over.

Still an awful lot of water under the bridge yet. Don't get too excited ;)
