So I was thinking back to watching the Cats in years gone by... thought I'd see if we could have a stroll down memory lane... Time to remember some past era heroes... Lets start with Johnny Mossop. Number 10, ruckman/forward, a big ranger from Penola. What do you all remember about him? I recall him being a good ruckman, mobile, took a good grab. Anyone have any specific memories?

He was a beauty John Mossop wasnt blessed with heaps of skill but just gave his all. Always seemdd to remember he would rest in the forward line and was always good for a goal or two. His biggest claim to fame surely was Bousustows mark he took over him in the square at Carrrrlton.

Remember him kicking bags of 6 & 7 goals against Collingwood in the early 80's before going to North Melbourne.

Strangely, someone seems to have modelled and named this puppet after him:

Re: Remember a player....Johnny Mossop

I think he held the record for the shortest time on the ground - sat on the pine all day and was brought on with ten seconds to play in the third quarter, then spent the last quarter back on the pine. He likes to tell the story about how how afetr the match - which geelong was thrashed in - the coach gave a rant about how only one player didn't do a thing wrong all day. John sat there thinking this has got to be me, I didn't do anything all day - the coach then puts the finger at Darren Flanigan.

The other thing about him was that he was always in Penola - would drive over god knows how many hours on the Thursday, train, then stay over Friday, play Saturday and drive back on Sunday - every week

Stephen Lunn.
Number 39.
Absolute flyer. Wore his number for a while there.

I remember going into the change rooms one night to get an autograph and brunsy said "he's in the shower mate, go in"

All I remember is he was showereing with turner and it was actually turner that did all the talking to me.

Anyhoo. Mr Lunn on the field seemed to be a lot like wojo now. Blistering, but didn't get the ball enough for a kid to really feel fulfilled in having the number on the back. So I moved to 21

He and Mick Turner almost dragged us into the 81 Grand Final. Between him and Rod Blake we had a pretty good ruck duo back in 2 preliminary final years at the start of the 80s
