Given that we play Port this week, do you remember when we lost to them at the MCG on a Friday night in1997 by 50 points? Cummings and Wanganeen dominated, and we were thrashed. That loss was the low, low, low point of 1997, and the lowest point we have been at under Sheedy. Ever since that night, we have improved, so much so, that we are now the leading club in all aspects.

Terrible night though, that one back in 1997. Any other memories of Port Adelaide vs Essendon?

Remember it well. Was a wet night as well from memory.

Most memorable port match was round 1 2000. Some fat port **** kept saying that we're chockers etc got thrown out pretty fast as well. Anyway, Round 2 when we played them this year, that same fat **** was back, only this time, calling Lloydy a "******" amongst other things, jealousy is a curse.

I remember round 16 when we played them at moron park last year as well. One of our blokes tackled a port player and this is Sandy Roberts exact commentary. "And he tries to burst through the pack... He is caught! Yes His GONE! G.O.R.N! GONE!"
A mate, roos fan who was watching it with me, couldn't beleive he spelt it out gorn either. Sandy is a commentating gem!

Yes that game was bad, but the Carlton game a few rounds earlier was worse.

Not just because we lost to Carlton- which is bad at any time, we got thrashed and played very poorly. One of the worst performances I have ever seen.

On another point, the highlight of that year was the victory against Brisbane in Rd 21, when we came from behind in the last quarter and pipped them on the post. Lloyd kicked arse won us the game.

I remember that guy!!!

Was it behind the goals to the left hand end of the TV screen, behind where the Port cheer squad was? He kept calling James Hird, "James Nerd" and got thrown out in the second half. And he was standing up in his seat virtually all game.

Yeh it was behind the port cheersquad. He wasn't standing on his seat as he was in the standing area both times.

I do remember the guy standing on his seat but, he was a ****er as well.

The Port supporters at that game were terrible. We had these three or four women
who were all in their 40s and dressed up in fancy clothes, and none of them would
shut up the whole night. Every time Essendon got a free kick..."oh, look at how bad
he staged that, oh that's terrible". They just went on and on and on. Even when they
were down by 10 goals they complained that the umpires cost them the match.

Hmm,wanganeens first match against us,waited for him at the port race and un~loaded on him, waited for him after the game and un~loaded again,he got b.o.g !!!!
had words with people who were giving scotty cummings a hard time, explaining to them he didn`t want to leave...p rick of a night,we were belted.

You're forgetting the time (same season) that you got thrashed by the Frockers by 97 points - you can bet your balls Sheedy would have been more worried by that loss than being beaten by a club he greatly admires...

No, the Port loss was worse.

The Freo loss, was "partly" excusable, because we had a savage injury toll. We literally had a reserves quality tam on the park that day. We also played them in Perth. Freo won 10 games that year (same as Port), so they were not a better side thah Port at all in that season.

The Port loss was worse because we lost to a middle of the road team (10 wins Port had after round 22), on our home ground by 50 points with a stronger side than the one beaten by Freo. We were really at a low ebb, after that loss.
