Hi everyone

I have recently purchased a house in WA. The house was built in 1972 and the fences and shed out side are made from asbestos sheeting. No problem, the area is riddled with it and it is in good condition.

The problem is, I want to rip the carpets out, put floorboards in and renovate the bathroom kitchen etc etc. I am unaware if there is any asbestos in the house! The house is double brick, and the roof is tiles (they look relatively new). I ripped up a bit a corner of the carpet today and the underlay looks to be a thin-grey rippled foam (with cement underneath that). I would have no idea how to test the cement.

The real-estate agent assured me that there was "definitely no asbestos in the house", but this was after I had moved in and.....how would she know!! I would like to get it tested but I dont know where to go (in perth).

Does anyone have any experience in this!!
Thanks! Dani

Cement would be fine. Probably the underlay would be fine too.

But your best bet would be to get a building inspection done. They will check everywhere, and would know where to look.

Thanks db-crow. I was told that a building inspection cant necessarily tell me that there is asbestos in there for sure as they do not send off lab-tests and this is the only way to tell 100%

Ill keep trying with the phone calls!!
