Is there any chance Peter would play on next year in a bid to get to 300 games. I think he would be still a very important part of our team. He is still the most skillful midfielder at the club and I would like to see him play on next year. Even if it meant he played every second week, I still think he would offer great value and it would be a huge boost for the group to see him reach 300.

I heard a interview with on K-Rock prior to the start of play on Saturday and he basically stated that this was his final year and playing 300 games was not a motivation for him.

Of course, stating that he is playing for no personal milestone is the club thing to say but i would assume he would be more than interested in playing on next year to achieve a personal milestone that only 2 others have ever achieved at Geelong. Afterall, when you've played 15-16 seasons without the ultimate success, can you blame him.

He also stated that he would sit down the the coaches at years end and discuss the option of him playing and get an understanding 'if they (the club) still wanted him' and if he had the fire in his belly to continue for my one last season.

Peter Riccardi is the ultimate club man and i would love to see him to reach the 300 game mark. The problem from the clubs view would be the holding back of a young players progression, however after all he has dedicated to our club, surely we would allow that. If Ricco wants to play on, let him!.

How many games does he have now? 286-288 i think?

Yeah everytime i've heard him talk on the radio this year he's indicated that this is his last year. When he's out there we're a better team i think, but his body just can't get up for week to week football. It's a shame he'll retire without a premiership. One of the best wingman in the league during the 90's.

He should stay on another year. He is our only veteran and is therefore "free" plus, I think he is great example for the younger group, leads by example on field, and is one of our most skilled mid fielders.

Go Ricci!

He is hardly on the field to lead though...

I suspect he will retire seasons end, and if he doesn't, I think the club will ask him to.

A great player/clubman...

Ricco has been a fantastic player and an great asset to our club. It's amazing to watch when he comes on how clean his disposal is and how he consistently hits targets, compared to the rest of our midfield. It's sad that there's absolute daylight between his skills and the rest of the team, but we can't use him for extended periods.

Unfortunately, the way footy is played now, I don't think you can afford to carry 'impact' players like Ricco any more. Everyone on the bench needs to be able to run out a game. As great as Ricco is when he comes on for us, he becomes a liability if he can't run out a game.

So in short, I think it has to be Ricco's last season. He won't get to 300, and I don't think he should be carried to that milestone.

Perhaps others who know better what he's like could comment on this, but he could be well worth keeping around the club (skills coach perhaps, we could use a few more of our guys getting their disposal up to his quality).

Unfortunately he isn't having the same impact as he did last season when he genuinely changed the course of a game when he came on.

Would love to see him around next year to make the 300 but at the same time I think his time is up at the end of this year.

riccardi has been a champion but the club would be better off blooding youngsters than carrying him to 300 games. especially in the next 18 months since a flag is quite clearly beyond our grasp. It's a damn shame his great service won't be rewarded with a premiership.

He said about 3-4 years ago he would continue to play while he could make the grade.

Its fairly obvious to all, including himself, that he only just scrapped in this year and next year is simply not an option.

Rico for skills coach in 2007!

Hopefully some of his silky skills will rub off on the current pack of dromedarys we have calling themselves footballers.

Pay him whatever it takes, we need someone who has got the goods to show the kids how it's done.

Oh what we'd give for another like him. Clean passes out in front of his team mates and one of our only players who doesn't look to dish it off from a set shot inside 50. We'll never forget the goal after the siren in 2002 either.

disagree he like half the side had stuffed preseasons. Ricco limped into 2006 because of the incompitent fitness staff that could not tailor a program for a 280 game player. ...or for that matter the Captain, or half our side.

Ricco Could play on but Probably wont want to.... It would be at no real cost to us as we probably wont have 2 other players that fit the vet status

Yeap, 02 was the Carlton game? We were in another un-loosable position... when carlton hit the front, lucky Rico saved us.

He wasnt there on the weekend againts WC, sadly.

Geelong Culture. Loosing un-loosable games.
