Richard Callender

Is anyone else sick of this idiot appearing on TVN every Syd meeting? I've been showing patience for a few years now, but today was the last straw.

Apart from never tipping a winner except when they are in the red, it's his form analysis which is shocking. Seems to give horses who have good form and a realistic chance of winning, no chance. He's No Pie Eater, Safwa, Cecconi, Downhill Dancer etc. I can understand him not tipping the Victorians because of his bias towards Sydney horses. Not sure how He's No Pie Eater didn't get in his top 3 selections, particularly after his last start win.

Today for eg. David Hayes was interviewed before Cecconi's race. Hayes went on to say that he was bit unlucky and should've run at least 2nd in his last start...
Callender on his pre race review bagged Hayes for saying that, big Richie predictably gave Cecconi no chance. Cecconi ran a cracking race for d.h 2nd.

Safwa's win was very impressive. Do you think Richie could shut up about the interference that Upper Echelon received (beadman went for a run that wasn't really there), reckons he would've made the finish interesting if she got out. Bull dust Richie, there was no way Upper Echelon could've matched Safwa's turn of foot. Carried on like a sore loser. :o

Got to put up with his crap tomorrow morning as well.

This bloke is a pain in the arse particularly when his specials or tips lose and he is out of pocket. Then every excuse used in the book comes out. :o

P.S For the record i did win today, so i haven't got the ****s! Just needed to get it off my chest, what better place to do it then Big Footy. :thumbsu:

totally agree, lucky im more of a fan of victorian racing!! you would think after tipping so many winners he would invest in some speech pathology lessons!!!!

i cant see a point in all these tipsters just tipping horses that are in the red all the time. no purpose, nothing better then value.

what also frustrates me is shane templetons qauddies that are going to cost $500+ and he keeps bringing it back to "flexi". he is also obsessed with first fours, saying " it paid 47k, if you followed our selections you could have got that"

pffffffft....

I don't have a problem with him, can't believe the amount of criticism he cops.

Comes across to me as a what you see is what you get sorta bloke. No fake media image. And he's got some personality and isn't afriad to express an opinion. What's wrong with that? The TABs are full of people with an opinion.

He gets a bit carried away when his tips lose - as we all do - but at least as a viewer I know he's backed the horses he tips. Beats copping a set of 'media tips' where the tipster tells the punters one thing and then personally backs other horses.

If you want a set of stiff cardboard cut out presenters who read names and numbers off a TV set, haven't been to a track in years and don't express any personal opinions on races then Sky Channel is the service for you. Graeme McNeice and co annoy me a heck of a lot more than Richard Callendar.

Pretty similar thoughts to Footyman re Richard Callender, don't mind him talking through his pocket.

The blokes on SKY really give me the *****s, especially Graham McNiece who declares everybody a lovely bloke and won't have a critical word said about any trainer or jockey regardless of what they have done. He's meant to host a review show after all. Much rather have a bloke calling it as he sees it (regardless if he's right or wrong).

Another thing with SKY that really P...s me off is their insistence to put "late mail" on the screen from blokes who have absolutely no idea, ie Andrew Bensley, Michael Radley at Harold Park trots who forever tips horses from newcastle with no hope whatsoever. Watching Melb trots tonight and they have Shaun Kelly from HRV giving the late mail :thumbsd: Clueless

Given the fact they don't have the time to do it given they telecast everything with legs that is racing around the world, don't bother with it unless you are going to get someone who knows what he is on about because it just takes up time they don't have.

I would take RC anytime over anybody at SKY

re Graeme McNeice why on earth does he think everything is "wonderful"

he reminds me of a kiddie loving pedro. Apart from Richard Freedman who tells it like it is Sky can go a get f***ed.

Would agree with that. I dont know what McNeice's background in racing is but he clearly didnt excel. All he does is sit there and mediate the argument. Total nuffy.

simon marshall is quality

i love it when brucie and steve moran are looking at him like wtf are you talking about and simon just keeps going lol

great stuff

I don't mind Richie. Bruce Clark and Steve Moran are better though.

Massive hatred for Caroline Searcey though.

doesn't it **** you when all she talks about is the breeding of a horse or how it got it's name.
got home yesterday to hear her talk about some dude back in the 1800's went to some place and thats how it got it's name. Richie then said "if you think you were only going to get a tip today you were wrong, you'll get a history lesson as well. If I wanted to know about history I've got foxtel and they have a history channel. I want to know why the thing can't win.

TVN arent there to pander to you specifically Im The Gun. Some people are interested in the breeding etc.

yes CS56 but not everyone cares about it. It's not as big a factor as what most people think & we don't have to hear about it non-stop as we do with her.

Im not really sure what youre talking about Im The Gun. Who's CS56? I think you've been warned about this harrassment before havnt you? Some people never learn.

As for your other comment, thats true, we dont have to hear about it ad nausium but we also dont have to hear about half of the other stuff they carry on with ad nausium either. People are interested in the breeding so its fair enough to talk about it.

Does Shane Templeton still work for Slade Bloodstock? It would explain why he seemingly always tips a Slade runner, no matter where the race is. Brockman's Lass is a good example - despite it being nothing but a money muncher, good old Shane always tips it to win.

You can also tell when he's had a big collect and when he's had a big loss after a race. If it's the latter he'll then go on and tell us all why we should have had it in our selections and how we were crazy if we left it out - see Let's Migrate and Miss La Tar yesterday at Caulfield.

I used to like him but he's got on my nerves lately.

Richie Callender is sensational. Honest and is not afraid to speak his mind and has strong opinions. Isn't that what we want? Unlike some that are like robots and just good presenters, not true racing people. Bruce McAveney for example can study for a week and sound like a racing man but Richie is the real deal. Can have a laugh at himself and you cannot deny that he lives racing. Of course he looks for excuses when his selections/bets get beat. Don't we all?

On the contrary, Bruce McAvaney started out his broadcast career as a race caller. He is genuinely knowledgable on the subject.

He is still not a true racing man. That was his intro into sports commentary not his lifes passion. I started off a builders labourer but know nothing on the subject!

From what I've read & heard he's more into track & Field than anything else.

The guy is a superstar and knows more about sport than most people do in their own chosen sport

True, can remember a story a few years back about Bruce and a couple of others chartering a flight from Adelaide to Kilmore just so they could get on one. Think it might have won as well

Loves his racing and certainly did begin as a racecaller prior to venturing out into sports commentary

If you say Bruce isn't a true racing man you don't know what you're talking about.

Perhaps I need to clarify. I class true racing people as those who devote their life and career to the racing game. Johhny Tapp, Kenny Callender, Steve Moran, Bruce Clark to name some modern racing men apart from obviously trainers, jockeys, stable staff, stewards etc. I dont deny Bruce knows his racing but I don't class him as a true racing man. I was using him an example (probably could have picked better- Tim Webster!) of what we dont want in support of Richie Callender.
