Who is all dicks? Collingwood supporters? Or Richard Pratt and Collingwood supporters?
He was joking in reference to Dick Pratt and being dicks.

It's a perfectly reasonable question - why are Collingwood playing for the "Richard Pratt Cup"?

It is a good question actually. It is a Carlton home game so I guess we can make submissions as to what we play for, BUT generally it is a cause that is associated with both clubs OR is a completely neutral cause. I guess the AFL have to approve these things and Collingwood or more specifically Eddie, would have had some input into it.

Happy to entertain discussion on it though and I request that Carlton supporters not to flame Collingwood supporters who are posting appropriately. I only wish the reverse was true over there at the moment.

Yep, I missed that one. Apologies general.

Well, I have no issue with my club raising money for prostate cancer, that is more than a worthwhile cause. Playing for the "Dick Pratt Cup" is a strange one though. Dick is obviously a Carlton legend, just not sure of the relevance to the Pies.....then again, Eddie seemed like he had a lot of time for him.

Oh well, I hope we win the "Dick Pratt Cup"! Go pies :thumbsu:

What a great idea.

I remember reading that Dick Pratt was speaking at the presidents function before a Carlton v Collingwood match a few years ago and he said "A lot of people say that they hate Collingwood. I don't. Collingwood have given me so much happiness over the years such as 1981, 1979, 1970 ..."

:D

Granted, some guys on the Pies board are being clowns, but surely a trophy to be awarded between two teams should have relevance to both of them. As a Pies supporter for 30 odd years I can't remember Pratt having anything to do with us.

If Eddie was his mate, good for him - he can honour him in some other way that doesn't speak for the whole football club but surely we can raise cancer awareness without bringing Pratt's name into it.

If we're that concerned about cancer awareness - call it the "Cancer Awareness Cup". Cancer awareness are two words I don't think of when I hear his name brought up.

I was a bit surprised when I first heard about it considering that you generally think a a cup would have some sort of connection to both clubs. People on the Collingwood board are going a little crazy about it and don't seem to be a fan of his due to all the crap that went down. But the way I see it is if its for a good cause then it really doesn't matter and if the Pratt name being attached to this cause can aid it in any way then all the better.

FWIW I think you guys will probably win this, I thought you were more than likely to before due to how well you always play against us but there is no way known the Carlton players would allow themselves to lose the first ever Dick Pratt Cup.

Well I must say the thread on the Collingwood board has made very entertaining viewing :thumbsu:

Regardless of some of the supporters, well done to the Collingwood head honchos for getting on board.

i have to admit, i'd rather see a club award be attributed to the great man rather than seeing his name on a trophy sitting in the collingwood trophy shelf every once and a while. ever the more reason to beat them every time we play for it to ensure this doesn't happen. :thumbsu:

i do approve of the cause however and the awareness it brings to such an important issue.:thumbsu:

I'm pretty sure you can raise awareness for cancer without putting Pratt's name on the trophy.

Carlton can do whatever they like with him, or Jack Elliot, Ian Collins or any other character that's run the club and name an internal award after them. That Eddie has agreed to do this is just as bad, if not worse than Carlton going to Collingwood and having the gall to ask for it.

Carlton must be pissing themselves at us behind closed doors and Pratt must be having a laugh wherever he's hanging out now!
