Richmond $31 Premiership, value????
let me 1st point out that the TAB is offering an awful price about the tiges ($17) but if you shop around i managed to find $31

My 3 value picks are WBD $14, Coll $15, Rich $31.....in this thread i will focus on reasons for Rich being value & am eager to hear your thoughts.

I believe Rih now has one of the deepest midfield rotations around with Cotchin (future brownlow medalist) Foley, Tuck, Johnson, Deledio, tambling (maybe), coughlin (maybe)....& of course Benny + i probably missed a couple more. Having multiple quality midfielders is so important these days as you can't run 2 gun midfielders into the ground all day anymore.

The ruck is fine as long as Simmonds stays fit.

I think the forward line is exciting, aside from being able to put the Richo Richo man up there, there's some real good youngsters C.Hughes, M.Morton, J.Reiwoldt then add N.Brown & its a nice mix, some big scores coming up this year.

The defence reminds me a bit of Haw's, its not a standout strength but seems very capable & has Bowden playing the Hodge type role (albeit I am not trying to say he's as good as Hodge). I think the Defence can hold up & King & McMahon can provide the run required.

Speaking of Haw, its a good thing to see how well Rich played against them twice last year, plus played well vs WBD.

there's a real chance for the tiges to make the top 4 in my view, which makes them a god value bet at anything around $26 or better.

We beat the Hawks, tied with the Dogs and went down to the Saints by 3. If we get to the top 4 we avoid Geelong in the finals we're every chance. Small chance if we do get them.

With Richo in the midfield, Jack Riewoldt and Hughes not quite there yet we are 1 established key forward and a good backup ruckman away from being a chance at the premiership. And as a doggies supporter, you'd know how badly a lack of key forwards and ruckmen can effect you. It doesnt matter how good your midfield is if you dont at least make up the numbers in the tall positions.

No chance to win the flag. None whatsoever. (and don't worry, if by some absurd turn of events, we do win the flag, I will gloriously bump this thread, print multiple copies and rub it all over my oiled up nude body)
I second the motion. I can't believe anyone who's supported the Tigers for more than about a year would even engage in such idle chatter. We would need to be 15 goals up halfway through the last quarter of the GF before I would even consider getting on us, and I'd still need them to be offering me decent odds.

$31 is good odds, but not great odds.

I wouldn't take anything worse than 20-25:1

That doesn't make any sense. Why would you get on us at $20-25 but not $31?

There is a reason we have such long odds .. it aint going to happen.
Put your money on Deledio for the Brownlow.

Deledio's going at $67. That's even longer odds.

I can tell a lot of you guys have endured a lot of heartache in recent years & do not want to get carried away--& that's fair enough, but not many thought WBD would make top 4 last year (started 40/1) & call me biased but i really think we could have beaten Geel in that prelim had we kicked straight in 3rd qtr.....nevermind.

I actually think the main reason WBD didn't make the GF was not so much the players we lack (mind you a tall forward would be nice) but moreso it was key guys way out of form (Welsh, Hudson, B.Johnson) plus the knee injury to Cooney & T.Williams missing.

I reckon Rich's chances are better than you think, top 4 is of course more realistic than GF, but once you're in the top 4 if you get the right match up & a bit of luck who knows....look at Adl in 97 & 98 or Syd in 2005, neither were really the best team in those years.

Deledio was at $101 when I got on him.

Oh and he has a chance for the Brownlow, Richmond have 0 chance at the premiership.

Just for the record, Nathan Foley and the Brownlow might go well together if we win enough games and he plays all 22 games fit.

Lids and Richo yes but Foley has a game that will attract votes.

So why is it certain players attract votes and others do not. Black almost pinched it last year in a team that missed the 8 and he always polls well. Buckley hardly polled in his early years at Collingwood.

Mitchell expected to poll well with the Hawks past two seasons but has not done so? What is the secret ingrediant?

i think Foley is by far the best value bet @ Rich, about 200/1 if you search around.

certain guys don't poll & this continues for their career, S.Goodwin, W.Carey, G.Ablett snr, Koutafides.

the votes last year for Black & Goodes prove the umpires don't really understand....but learning to think like them is tricky!

Good Luck all on BL bets, mine are R.Griffen 200/1, N.Foley 200/1

current sportstab prices on foley...

FOLEY Nathan (RICH)
$151.00
$38.50

Not a bad bet a place either.

It's not that hard to understand. Mids get the ball more than KP players so are more likely to catch the umpire's eye. Clean mids (i.e. blokes who play the ball and don't engage in holding & biffing blokes) are more likely to get votes. Mids who are good blokes to boot (or at least who engage with the umpires in a friendly way) usually win the Brownlow.

Harvey, Hird, Black and Richo are good examples of players with consistent polling records. Yes there are some obvious exceptions, but not many who poll year in, year out like these guys do / did. Foley's a great kid, but I reckon he's pretty quiet.

I umpired a bit when I was at Uni many years ago, and I had one club a lot more than most of the others because I didn't have my Driver's Lic at the time and had to ride my bike to the games. There were some talented kids at that club (three or four played WAFL, one AFL); one of them (he played some 1s at Claremont) just smiled and got on with the game no matter what my decision was. He almost always got votes from me. He probably won the league's B&F that year. If he didn't he should have :p

The reason people like Ablett don't get much votes is because they always argue with the umpires - get on their bad side and you won't get votes. Simple as that.

Lol, because Richo has never blown up at an ump. ;)
