As much as I find the OP a troll who has admitted to not even being a member, this conversation needs to take place, but in 12 months.

If we miss the finals in 2018 some hard questions needs to be asked about the coach.

Will to cut him slack this season.

Not willing next season

Hear, hear.
But in the meantime give him some experienced support staff who can coach.

As a head coach or just as a good bloke who people and players like?

He needs to surround himself with better tacticians I think. But something is missing there.

I was amazed to see Billings up there in the kms ran figures (a few weeks ago) when playing primarily as a fwd. It could explain his, and others, poor conversion. I bring this up because maybe his game plan, rotations or similar is hurting our forwards who might not have enough legs to play his style. Either way, something isn't right in the box.
As a coach,he was regarded as having a very good mind tactically. Your issues are the same as any squad with a lot of young players, consistency. Your team is on the right track.

Tee hee..reminds me of being at the Saints social club in the '80s where people were dancing around singing the song after whatever team flogged us by 10 or 12 goals..I asked why are you all happy about us being thrashed regularly?, and the response was "we'll come good in a couple of years..stop being so negative..." It has been a long couple of years

Prior to the AFL when it was still the VFL, you won flags for many reasons but it all stemmed from how much you bringing in and what that was doing for you, as the flags really shuffled between 6 clubs whilst the rest of us didn't really matter and were irrelevant. Then you have the AFL and the push to consolidation and equalisation to ensure a playing field where everyone has the same opportunities, a refresh if you will.

And what happens?

We make finals in '91, '92, '97 (GF), '98, '04, '05, '06, '08, '09 (GF), '10 (GF x2), '11

So yes, you focus on what can get you to a premiership, and since equalisation happened and all teams have had a chance to fix their shit, to grow to be an organisation within an organisation we have been close, we have been there and we just haven't had the results.

In the 80's, we couldn't pay anyone, period, 20c in the dollar, how do you expect that we'd win a flag during this time? You couldn't, so you focused on well at least we had Plugga, at least we had Barks, Harvey, at least we had boys wanting to be there, growing together to be there so that when we can, they will have this experience together to push.

And we pushed as you saw since 1990.

So stop being so negative where that is all you see.

I know wins/losses probably doesn't show it, but I think we have improved from last year, maybe not as much as we'd hoped for but we have.

We've had a much harder draw, we had a dream run home last year and really it was only North's fall from grace that made us a chance to make the 8.

You only have to look at our interstates games. We've won in Tassie and Perth (Freo) and if not for poor kicking would have won in Adelaide (Port) and Perth again (West Coast) and even though we looked poor against Adelaide, we went from losing by 100 to losing by half that.

I definitely think Richo has areas he needs to improve and I'd like to see a couple of assistants replaced, but calling for his sacking is over the top. We have improved every year under him IMO.

Imagine if Clarko and Bomber were sacked when they went through tough stages early on. I think senior coaches with potential need to be given time, just like we give to our players.

No matter which way you look at it or make excuses for the team the responsibility falls back on the coach. We have never won at the Adelaide oval in Richos time and have won 7 of the past 35 games in SA.

Something has to give at season end - either the Saints do something similiar to Richmond or move on the senior coach because the team game style and competitiveness is not whats required.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh the good old "Richmond strategy for success". if in doubt...... sack the coach! Gee THAT'S worked out SO well for them over the past thirty odd years! [emoji849] Why not drop off a truckload of chicken Schmitt at the Seaford centre while we're at it[emoji849] wait on! There's always the good old "membership-in-the-microwave" move too! YES! That'll get us the flag!

If ever a club could have sacked their coach it was Richmond with Hardwick, who has had limited success since starting in 2010. His record sits at 86 wins, 87 losses, 2 draws, in effect a 50% record. They are entrenched in the top 4 and look good to go deep this year. Some people have got no clue whatsoever!

I was hasty calling for Richos head but gee you dont have to be an AFL accredited coach to see our set up and structural floors. Richos needs to seriously work on his midfield setups and transition play over summer because they have gone backwards. If as mentioned before it means a change of assistants get it done Saints.

No idea. We would be a laughing stock if we sacked our coach. This is a year of not going forwards, but not going backwards either. Much tougher draw plus injuries and transitioning to a new era without those from 2010-09. Wait until these players all have 60-70 games under the belt. Judge then.

Sounds like you should have made a "Richo seriously needs to work on his midfield setups and transition play" thread rather than a "Richo must go" thread.

I think that there will be some changes come the end of the year. I also think that we don't put enough heat on the players. You can hear the frustration in Richos voice in the presser. He knew what was expected and believed that his players should have been awake to that as well.
Unfortunately in the heat of the moment some of our more experienced players dropped the bundle right when we could least afford them to!

In reality he actually owned that match considering the way the game went; if the players had been able to execute we would have won by 5 goals.. Anyone that wants Richo sacked is living in a parallel universe in my opinion. Tonight was a gut wrenching loss, but clearly shows we're going in the right direction.

Get behind the club? No no, better to self-destruct.

Well said! Really good post! Kudos colleague![emoji106]

A I have mentioned before...I thought Hardwick was an absolutely dead coach walking at the start of the season...BIG TIME.

NO to sack Richo.

But let's throw some coin at Jason Dunstall to come down once a week to spend a couple of hours on set shot goal kicking.
It wasn't the last two minutes that cost us that game.
Robbie Gray didn't beat us.
Being 2gls 12pts cost us the bloody match.
Our goal kicking is f******g woeful this season:mad:

It's not only the set shots though, it's the lack of compusure in open play as well. Billings and Gresham very guilty yesterday, probably others too but can't remember them off the top of my head. I think maybe Sincs missed an easy snap?
