"Ending a five-game, nine-day road trip at Gund Arena, the Utah Jazz could not have expected this kind of performance from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Just missing his first career triple-double, Ricky Davis shot at the opposing basket in the closing seconds and took a hard foul for it as his Cleveland Cavaliers surprised the Utah Jazz, 122-95.

Davis had 28 points, a career-high 12 assists and nine rebounds and Jumaine Jones added 23 points off the bench for the Cavaliers, who had six players in double figures and halted a seven-game losing streak.

Davis fired a shot at Utah's basket in the closing seconds after taking the inbounds pass near the free-throw line. He was fouled hard by Jazz guard DeShawn Stevenson and made two free throws with two seconds left.

"This is not schoolyard basketball. These guys are getting paid," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "I was glad DeShawn tried to knock him down."

Stevenson agreed with his coach.

"I have nothing against Ricky. It's about respect. Respect for the game," he said. "Ricky's like that. He's a wild person. I didn't try to hurt him. But I gave him a hard foul."

Hmm I wonder if the Mailman will be delivering the hard foul next time :D

haha he deserved to get hit hard for that. It's been pretty obvious all year Davis plays for stats and not winning so much. I remember Anthony Bowie when he was with Orlando calling a timeout with 2 seconds left on the clock in a blowout so he could get the assist he needed for his triple double. It was against the Nets from memory, and NJ were furious and refused to go up the other end of the floor to guard anyone, so his got the dime he needed. But i agree it is extrememly disrespectful and arrogant.

I saw it on sportcenter...it was stupid. Ricky Davis should know better anyway to know that taking a shot at your oppositions net isnt going to get you a rebound.

True that, Jod-- and because of that, Davis still ended affairs on the night with just nine boards.

Definitely a "bush league" moment, and one which Jerry Sloan added, "I would have kicked his [arse] too." Sounds to me like the queue forms to the left there...

Davis isn't either the first nor the last in the NBA to play for padding his stats (or knowing them!) over the course of a single game, season, etc., and you certainly don't do that when your team has already embarrassed your opponent at home, especially with the bad season the Cavs have had to endure.

I don't mind. The haven't had much to cheer this season (and won't for seasons to come unless they win the upcoming lottery). And of all the teams to do it too, Utah are more deserving than most.

The Bowen/Jalen Rose tussle was interesting. I downloaded the footage last night. When Rose missed the FT the whole SA crowd went nuts. Love it.

Rose is a punk. Just because Bruce Bowen shut him down for the night he puts in a cheap shot shove while Bowen is in the air for a lay up. Bowen had him totally psyched out.

Bowen should stop fighting people and learn to shoot free throws!
