Stanton's body language was terrible today at times, in the 3rd mainly. Watson was much better than last week i thought, and has a future unlike Pev.

Stanton's next step is to start exerting himself on the contest more and really influencing the result.

Apart from a couple things I thought Watson was quite ordinary. He looks slower than year to me.

He can jump, decent tap, but a very lazy kick and only plays cameos.....which barely last a minute at a time.

He's played what? 20 games?

And has a minimal fitness base. I thought we were better when he was rucking today. And last week for that matter.

He's going to be good for us.

Didnt think a fitness base had any baring on his kicking. Two kicks into our forward 50 within a minute of one another and both advanced 10m forward and 30m across the half forward flank. Im yet to be convinced of anything other than potential, which is deceiving given his size and leap.

In regard to MJ, he copped a few very heavy knocks that I think slowed him up a little. Certainly the clash with Fev in the 3rd qtr but he also got a knock I think in the first quarter by memory.

No, but it would explain the "only plays cameos"

MJ gets exposed for pace anywhere near the corridor and cant play against bigger players like he once did. I think he should permanently be in the forward pocket and allow Davey to play in the middle and on the wings immediately. He doesnt seem fazed by the step up from last year and doesnt mind taking players on.

i think ricky dyson has the ability to kepp up with the game where at times, and i stress the "at times", guys like Pev and Watson just seem to move to slow when we need to move the footy quickly

Perhaps we should recruit Patrick Johnson or Matt Shirvington. They can run fast. Oh I forgot it's no use if you haven't got the football.

Davey doesnt have the body to play midfield, just watching today that was evident. He'd get absolutely murdered in the midfield.

He doesnt need it when he's in space....he would be able to outrun most even at this stage early in his career. He certainly gave some of his opponents the slip in the 3rd term when not many of our boys wanted the ball.

There are still needs in this game for Watson and Pev type players, the fact of the matter is that we have to damn many slow hard ball get type players, e.g (these 2) plus JJ, MJ, Hef and Campo (when he is fit) we could probably do with dropping 2 if not 3 of these players. i reckon dropping Pev delisting injury prone campo, moving MJ to FP for good and maybe giving Hef a few more chances as he has provided some good footy.

He hasnt starred or shown anything to suggest he can sustain a successful season. I cant say he's played an entire quarter of serviceable football.

20 game ruckmen don't do that.

David Hille didn't do that, Luke Darcy didn't do that.

He was good when he was on the ground yesterday.

Ill pose this question to you....how many more seasons can he remain on our list if this trend continues? Personally, I think he is one Paddy Ryder or another young ruck draft pick away from being dispensed through either a trade or delisting. I just dont think he's worth our resources for much longer if he keeps breaking down.

He is contracted till the end of next season, so he's safe until then at the very least.

If he continues to play the footy he's played the next two weeks and builds his match fitness, which inturn increases minutes played and his experience, he'll be our number one ruckman by the end of the season.

You could isolate that bit.

A harsh call, but Hille was disgraceful in the ruck, has been all year. We looked better when JayLay was rucking, and even Paddy towards the end, Paddy is going to be a star I think.

Agree with you Crave about Laycock's ability to stay fit and consistent. But I would start him in the ruck everytime, if he was fit. Hille should not be our number one ruckman based on this year's performance.

One thing thats dawned on me....not much of a mention of Hille....are we resigning to the fact that he is as good as he'll ever be and evidently measuring up our other options?

sheedy gave hille a spray at 3/4 time. then he sat him on the bench for the majority of the last quarter.

i wouldn't be surprised if this week's game will be hille last chance to impress. i reckon sheeds is fed up with him and we need to see whether or not laycock can be the number one ruckman

It would be a shame if Hille begins a steady decline in his football, similar to that of Bolton's because he does display good characteristics to lead a side...built like a Sherman tank and can bob up and turn a game on its head with bags of goals on occasion, yet with the game getting faster and more mobility being asked of our players...he could be a victim of the way the game is heading. I hope thats not the case because I like the lad.

I agree, he seems like a top bloke and does have capabilities. But he has to fix his ruck work, it is deadset terrible. Against Sandilands last week he didn't look like going near the ball. Sandilands is a man mountain, but Hille was jumping way to early, and flying underneath the ball. It was as if he was trying to bump off him and get the fly, but he wasn't going near the ball. But it was against Sandilands and you could cut him some slack. Ackland is a solid tap ruckmen, but wouldn't be in the top 10 in the league. Hille was just as poor today.

He started the third quarter, and I don't think it's a coincidence that they killed us out of the middle. When JayLay went in, we looked more competitive. But the fact is, someone like Ackland should not have that influence on a match. Ranting and raving on a bit but Hille really needs to lift his game, because he is not getting enough of the ball to get away with his very substandard ruck work

if he gets towelled up against ackland and cloke how is he going to go against the good ruckman???

some worrying signs from hille yesterday
