The next, ridiculously obvious question is what the f*ck for?

Mott still had another year on the rookie list if need be (unless i've misunderstood the rules), so if he had good form for South or one of our main ruckmen got injured he could be promoted easily. So why do it now? May as well draft a kid.
 
Maybe some other club is interested in a trade, so you'd have to promote him to trade him.

I spoke to someone recently who "has connections with the Sydney Swans" (?) who reckons that Mott came back to WA because he was (a). homesick (b) really really liked to get on the turps.
Then I spoke to a young fella at work who was born and bred in the country, has played country footy as a ruckman, was on East Perth's list for a coupla years, who told me that he knew of Mott; he "appeared to be a straight-down-the-line sort of honest bloke", a real good guy...
Dunno who to believe!!!

He's most probably both. An honest bloke who likes to get on the turps.

I too know someone who played country footy with him and it sounds about right.
