So far there has been little indication that Allen is a better forward than Macca, or Gwilt, or even Heyne or Lynch.

I heard that Nick's operation is to drain a cycst. Does anyone know if an operation for this sort of injury would even be considered during the season proper?

Nah, cysts can be dangerous things when they're in areas that are used constantly, my mate still has one at the back of his head since the doctors told him if they removed it they risked killing him considering how ingrown it was, when you consider all the ligaments and what have you with the knee and surrounding area, you'd need time off during the season if it were to be removed, otherwise you'd just deal withthe discomfort.

Gilbert, a good mark, great tackler, same height as Riewoldt, we could use another tall forward?

Won't be at 100% until half way through the season? Ha laughable.

I recall Riewoldt playing his first game in 2007 in round 3 after hamstring problems and kicking 4 goals against the Doggies, following by another 4 the week later.

I recall last year he had knee problems and could not kick for the first half of the year, so its not great at all that he has already had problems before the season has started

The other player who is a possibility down forward is Zac Dawson. It seems a fair few Hawks supporters rate him better as a forward than a back.
Could also be an opportunity to see how Chips or BJ would go in that position.

He played a few games for Boxhill being pitch hitted at FF, is a good mark and kick...just lacks some footy smarts IMO, though that wouldn't matter if getting delivered lace out by the likes of Dal Santo and Hayes...

For the NAB Cup, I think Riewoldt's possible replacements at CHF are Lynch, Dawson & McEvoy, with Kosi already forward and Gwilt playing mid-sized forward. I wouldn't be surprised if Maguire was tried there, but he needs to get on the park first.

It would have been good to see Allen there, but he is injured, unfortunately. I don't think we'll see Gilbert or Sam Fisher forward, and Goddard will only go forward when resting from the middle where I'm sure he'll play this year.

What stopped Riewoldt from kicking for goal well last year were knee strapping in the first half of the year, and the glove on his right hand after the 2nd Collingwood game. Once he started taking the glove off for set shots he didn't miss one. In fact, he kicked his last seven goals of the year from set shots without a miss. So if he needs strapping, he'll probably struggle, but if he is strapping (and glove) free, his kicking will probably be where it was in 2004.
