We all spent plenty of time wondering why Jack wasn't tearing it up at the start of the season. Well finally we have the answers. He was on 3AW today and mentioned that he had 5 operations: ankle 2x hip shoulder reco and finger and spent 35 days on painkillers during the preseason. Any wonder he was slow out of the blocks. It would appear that he has finally got fitness back and the last 2 weeks have proven that.

More evidence the club lacked foresight in not sending him early for surgery when the season was over effectively last year. Instead made him play through it then had a delayed preseason and a poor start to the year.

Against Essendon, West Coast and Geelong a firing Riewoldt was the difference between a close loss and a win. It's done now though so let's hope he continues this form from here on in.

I'm pretty sure Jack said the coaches wanted him to learn to play through injury.

Club pulled the wrong reign. Did more harm than good. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes.

We all weren't wondering mate. I said the same thing as Barnzy at the end of last year and was also howled down. Anyway, as long as we continue to learn and improve I'll be happy. Hard to be grumpy today.

We all knew about the off season surgery, but I don't think many of us realised just how much it affected Jacks preparation. Also IIRC the club said that Jack playing wasn't going to make the injuries any worse. As it is the slow start hasn't really hurt us overall.

Heard that aswell. I thought he had 4 ops in the off season.

no it was 5, did he have a shoulder reco did he, I dont think thats right...in the last 2 weeks he has certainly moved a heck of alot better...I reckon the structure up forward has help no end, dropping a tall in miller...Notice jack lead straight up the guts OFTEN...Im beginning to think Miller was dragging his opponent into the path too often

I'm certain most people on this board were aware Jack did not join full training until mid Jan because of his surgery's but it wasn't his slow start that was the problem it was his attitude that was most concerning.

Anyway he has certainly changed his attitude , body language and found form which is fantastic for the club. The way Jack spoke about the club at last nights press conference was inspirational and he has certainly responded well to the criticism he deserved.

Go Jack and go Tigers !!!!

A mate at the game with me last night said to me "I think Brad Miller has played his last game for the Tigers"

I tend to agree.

Miller was clearly creating uncertainty . been the biggest revelation of the last fortnight the way the forward line has finally clicked .

Maric floating down there more often is blind-siding the opposition and creating an infinately better option than Miller .

Jack is best left predominantly on his own down there with less clutter

I don't think the forward line has clicked at all.
There could be something just in Miller being dropped and Jack finding form. Ty still looking to regain any sort of form. Both Nahas and King have been relatively out of form (compared to where they have been before). Edwards is finding some form.
I'm wondering whether we're dropping the 3 tall forward line, which until 2 games ago, Hardwick had been banging on about.

i reckon 21 and 18 goals respectively in the last fortnight warrants the term "click':p

Not surprised at all.. Obvious he wasn't back to full fitness due to late start to Pre season.. So glad his form is back. :thumbsu:

His hips IIRC , were done around the same time Cotchin had his done and were by far the longest recovering surgery he had. Also think he and Cotchin have tracked similarily with their recovery , rejoining full training at the near the same time .
I like others think his lack of early season form was a direct result of playing within a crowded forward line .
The fact Miller was dropped ( after spending all season hovering within 30mtrs of goal , his kicking range ) and King and Nahas now playing further up the ground gives he more room and more 1 on 1's .

... which he will win more often than not , and he now has room to lead into rather than the schoolyard , arm in the air "kick it to me... kick it to me" schtick we saw the first 8 weeks;)

Playing the devil's advocate here, but let's not forget that the St Kilda defence last night was a 2nd string defence... i'm not saying he didn't have a marvellous game, but I want to see him do that against a top quality defender :thumbsu:

absolutely bang on....theres been three factors in recent weeks that were a change from first 6 rounds

1. changing GUN midfielder as a deep forward
2. Maric spending more minutes deep forward...this attracts attention from opposition..there is a balance on that though coz we are worse off in clearances out of the guts...we did save him for last stanza of game though
3. Miller I dont believe was making the front half cohesive...he was attracting ball and wouldnt capitalise..then worse he was blocking the path of Jack

Our smalls seem to look more dangerous than ever at the moment with a sense we are always about to score once the pill lands in that blockhole behind the defenders thanks largely to edwards and nahas

without a shadow of a doubt our forward line has functioned better, i think weve kicked near 40 goals in last fortnight against two teams currently in the 8

Eh, Fisher played in both games against us in 2010 and Jack kicked 6 and 7 goals in those encounters.

He just loves tearing the Saints to shreds. I don't think they have an answer for him, regardless of Fisher.

Fisher can't stop him. Simpkin was very highly rated by the Saints fans that he would stop Jack completely. Dawson also used to play on him when he tore Saints apart. Looking forward to another bag this week. :D

Given that our average score we've been getting is near on 100, yeah we got some more goals. But the last 2 games have been because Jackie-boy has hit some form, not because the forward line has clicked. (i don't really see them as necessarily related) I think tho thats its more than just a co-incidence that Brad is out, and JR finds his form.
The saints defense played very poorly, and rarely double teamed JR.

If it wasn't for the loss, i'd take the goal kicking spread we had over the essendon game, any day of the week. Its just harder to defend against.

Tho one thing that has improved (beside JR actually wanting to jump off the ground) is that players making the i50 actually are having space to place a ball to a player on the lead, rather than the old richmond bomb
