Sad news to come out today with the story that Hay List was euthanised after suffering laminitis.

Had he been around a couple of years earlier or later and didn't have to contend with Black Caviar we could have all been talking about this horse as an even bigger champion.

very sad news and still quite young relatively in retirement. as you mentioned, had his heart broken too many times by black caviar otherwise could have been one of the best ever. RIP.

Great memories when it hung on to win the Newmarket carrying a caravan - many doubted it could carry the weight but I never lost faith and collected nicely that day. Grabbed some nice photos straight after the win too.

Yeah, you know what I mean though. Non-racing fans would know who Black Caviar is, but most wouldn't have a clue who Hay List is.

I thought he had BC in the Lightning Stakes of 2012. What a brave and gutsy horse.
