Very influential in the Doors distinctive sound.

Thought he became very annoying in later life with his God like almost homo erotic devotion to the legend of Jim Morrison, but no the less a very influential figure in a great era of rock n roll.

I know I should be saying things about Ray Manzarek... but that can wait.

Still gotta give major props to Robbie Krieger in that clip with the massive shiner. Looks like a hobo with a temper problem.

Anyway... RIP Ray. Never a huge fan of The Doors - but that was mainly to do with the douche-ness of the lead singer more than anything else.

I admired Manzarek's attempts to keep the flame burning all these years. Even if I didn't agree with the constant deification of Morrison, I still admired Manzarek's pluck.

Helluva keyboard player as well.

Would've missed this if not for a chance mention on SEN, and had to dig for the story at the HS. One of those rare musicians able to eloquently express his recollections of the sixties.

In terms of keyboard players it doesn't get much better than Ray Manzarek, he was a genius.

I play piano/keyboards and the Doors music is the hardest stuff to play, if there was a Keyboard Hero playstation game the Doors would be the advanced level.

Took me ages to master the intro to Light My Fire and even after heaps of practice I'm still not as good as Ray and probably never will be.

i think they knew each other before that but yes they saw each other at the beach and Ray asked what Jim had been up to and Jim started telling him about his poetry...

its amazing some of the stories how bands start out.
