The AFL website lists a number of KPP and mids from over east and WA. Some of these players could have easily been picked up during the ND. Would be interesting to see who our supporters think we should pick and why.

http://cms.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/126608/default.aspx

We have 5 rookie picks i think. Players I would consider

KPP x 2 Mihochec, Bosley if they are taken then Frost

Mid x 2 Horsley, Tunbridge if they are taken then Shane Nelson

Fwd x 1 Dick

My ideal rookie draft would be:

Frost
Bosely
Tunbridge
Spurr
Nelson
Pearce
Dick

This encorporates the possiblity of 2 extra rookie draft selections.

^ Would be awesome, but with Grover and Roberts taking up the other two spots on the RL, I'm assuming you mean for Pav to not go onto the veteran's list until 2013?

I'd agree with that - Pearce gets one more year to take someone like JVB's spot on the main list. If he still can't claim a senior list spot after next year, he isn't going to. Pearce has earnt 1 year to turn it around. Pav then goes onto Vets List next year ahead of free agency regardless.

As for the rookie selections, I'd also throw Busher and Lee into the mix you listed if one of the other talls is gone, and maybe replace one tall with Horsley... maybe ;)

unfortunately there are 17 other teams with wishlists similar to yours apart from Pearce and Dick,we would be very lucky to grab 2 of the others you have mentioned

This is true, Bruzaar, but then i've just cherrypicked some names i'd most prefer, the article in the OP has a shitload of pretty frequently talked about names so some of these will drop through the 1st few rounds, heck 1 or 2 of them mightn't even get drafted, See Tyler Chalwell.

I forgot about busher, replace Bosely with Busher in my list. :) really like the sound of that guy's commitment & dedication to training for a young WAFL player.

What happened to Chalwell, I haven't heard anything from him at alll this year?

I'm hoping we don't pick up Dick, just for the sake of keeping everyone on topic.

Surely we would have to be looking very seriously at Manson?

I agree, ooodles of talent and a huge upside in an area in which we are deficient.

Totally worth the risk in my eyes and he is far more likely to succeed with us than those in the eastern stated. Especially now that Rodger is on board.

This could really work, only problem is that he will be hot property in the rookie draft. :(

The AFL system has failed exciting Claremont forward Waylen Manson, according to Garnduwa talent manager Brett Claudius.

I don't think that this article has helped Mansons situation, unfortunately. May have been the reason he was overlooked in the first place, clubs may have been worried he would do a Sampi/Wonaeamirri.

Still worth a roll of the dice for a rookie spot?

I wouldn't really care if we overlooked him. I'd rather we drafted a key forward, maybe even one who could debut in the next two years.

Chris, wouldnt you think that if we did draft him that he would certainly have a good chance of getting a spot i the forward line of our 2012 team?

We certainly do not have anyone of his X Factor (perhaps Ballas) that would require a key position defender to negate his tremendous leap and marking skills.

Certainly worth our first pick IMHO!!!

You don't need a key defender to stop someone like Manson or Jurrah - he is only 191cm and 77kg after all. All you need is someone to have body contact and to stop their run. For example, I'd be more than confident with Ibbotson or Roberton lining up on Manson.

Plus, he would offer as much run and defensive pressure as Sibosado did in his half of football. The fitness base is not there, so you can guarantee the opposition would funnel the ball through his opponent every chance they get.

And when is he going to play for us? The odd week that he is actually in Perth? Can't imagine we'll be flying him in and out each game. If either Fremantle or West Coast drafted him, I imagine he'll play about half the season in the WAFL reserves and probably spend the rest of his time back home adjusting to being an AFL footballer.

I really hope he makes it, but I'd much rather we fill our needs before looking at a very long term prospect like Manson.

I thought he was 195cm?

It is a bit ironic that you say that Chris. You have said that we have long term needs and in a key position forward and that you hope that they are ready in 2 years or so. Yet you say that we should not draft them but wait for the best of the scraps with the Rookie draft. Just about every Key position pick in the Rookie draft is a very long term prospect. Well, at least you acknowledged that we have a Key Forward position deficiency.

Should we have not actually made late picks for these sorts of players then, even if they will take time to develop, you can have a go at Manson all you want and about his culture and adapting to life in the big city. Jarrah made it. Came of the rookie list and is one of the most exciting players in the AFL. He is also not key position size and comes from a remote community but he is still a focal point in the Dees forward line. Surely we have a better player management system for our indigenous players than Victorian teams like the Dees.

If we dont then we run the risk of losing tremendous talent to those teams that are willing to take a chance (and ALL rookie listed players are a gamble including Sibo). We should be promoting Freo as a team with the determination and ability to accommodate any players needs and provide them with everything needed to be the best.

Up until now, we may have had some facilities and some money but we sure as Hell have not had the professional coaching that is needed to bring out the best in the players. We should now take a look at bringing in amazing talent and moulding them into a professional footballer.

If this kid can create and make as many goals as he did next to Fev. Imagine what a full time professional player who is fit, well trained and dedicated can do.

Mouth watering!:D:thumbsu:

Off the top of my head, I could name probably around 10 KPFs who are available in the rookie draft who could potentially play next year. And a full season of WAFL football would only increase their chances - something that we wouldn't see from Manson.

In the rookie draft, we could easily draft a mature aged KPF who could play next year and an 18 year old who could push for selection in the second half of the season. I would rather we did that before looking at a 3 year prospect.

As I've said before, all 18 teams overlooked KPPs after the second round in the national draft - while this was done for a reason (hence why we went smaller), it has left some players with very good AFL attributes as potential rookies.

And I never had a go at Manson or where he has come from - I said he doesn't have the fitness base for an AFL player, and that you don't need to play your best defender on him to shut him out. Nothing about his culture there.

I would hardly call the rookie draft scraps. We have used the rookie draft as a tool to develop some very good players. Sandy for example, oh and how about Barlow and Lower who were walk in best 22.

This rookie draft has some promising players and plenty of KPP and Manson is just 1 of a number of them. I would like to see him play in a more challenging WAFL comp than the NT comp before makin a decision on him, when Brody Mihochek all Aust hbf is still up for grabs.
