I think were a real chance this weekend... with the debut of kreuzer .. and inclusion of bentick , and jackson ... .
No Lucas up forward thats one less goal kicker for the baby bombers..

hopefully stevens can lift hes game this week and judd can improve a little (Not expecting to much from him), And if Murphy , And Gibbs have good games i think we will topple the dons ...

Any Thoughts??

i think this will be out first win, hopefully is, then we can move on beat collingwood, then beat melbourne and look ok at 3-2

I'll run down the main street in Dakar naked if that is where we sit after Round 5......

Just the two changes:

In: Bentick, Kreuzer

Out: Russell, Pfieffer

Backs: Carrazzo O'hailpin Thornton
H-Backs: Bower Waite Scotland
Centres: Gibbs Judd Simpson
H-Forwards: Houlihan Cloke Fisher
Forwards: Betts Fevola Edwards
Rucks: Hampson Stevens Murphy
I/C: Hadley Bannister Kreuzer Bentick

Pfieffer very very unlucky. Gives us more flexibilty with another tall in the 22. This way, Cloke, Hampson and Kreuzer can rotate through the half forward line, and can give us some presence and a target.

ditto. and im not even in dakar.

i think this one will be tough - the bummers played pretty good today, it was just geelong being unbelievable that made the score look like it does. essendon's pace is still there......and our shitty skill errors are still very much there.

would be great ay ... maybe 1 win is all we need... just some sort of confidence going into another game... if we can sting two wins in a row that would be a massive confidence boost to the younger players ...

I liked Pfieffer but can't remember exactly why. Aside from magnificent goal on the run from outside 50, I know he did some good things...

Messendon had the wind knocked out of their sails by the Beast that is Geelong today. All their flimsy one-match deep bravado will have been wiped. Time for us to also show what a pile of crap they basically are. Kreuzer must come in if fit. Probably Bentick too. And Jackson.

Pfeiffer should not be dropped after playing his first game on the weekend.

We're a chance to win this week, but I'd still send a message to the players by dropping a name player such as Carrazzo for example and bring in a quicker player.

If we had one in form.

They're very lucky Walker is injured or they'd be dropped for sure IMO.

Bannister should go before Pfeiffer so we can play someone like Hadley on Watson who might hurt him going the other way. Essendon don't have as many class midfielders as St Kilda who you really need to sit on and watch closely.

Do really need Bannister?

He might be a good match up for McPhee.

i think the Essendon fans have orerated themselves... just like the Bitchmond supporters .... they have hit reality...

Geelong are the best team in the Afl by a huge margin... but 99 point thrashing isnt quete good enough.... shows there in the same boat as us... the tiges .... and ovcoarse melbourne

Time to give those bumbers a beating in kruezer, jamo bentick, out russell(never to be seen again)it will be worth the weight to rub there faces in the dirt when we are a power again hang in there blues:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

I dissagree. Essendon actually played pretty well considering the opponent. They got the ball and managed to get it into their forward line. But with no Lucas and playing against the stingiest backline in the game couldn't put the scores up on the board. Essendon won't be a pushover, especially if the blues don't lift their pace and intensity. Also, i'd find a way to keep Fife in, hes only gonna get better with game time and could be a solid best 22 performer by years end if hes given consistent opportunities.

bring in bentick and drop banister
phifer played really well for his first game i think people forget that. russel as much as i dislike him he played well against the saints

Bentick and Kreuzer in for Russell and Bannister out.
Watched the Essendon game, they made a lot of bad decisions and disposal was poor. Pace is all they have.....Lloyd goalless...hope he doesn't have a day out next week.

Russel did a few good things but some of his clumsy mistakes overshadowed his night.
Pfeiffer wouldn't be dropped. IMO he was one of our best and though he didnt get much of the ball, tried hard all night.

Hopefully Kreuz control can finally kick into gear on Saturday night & open the blues winning account. :thumbsu:

I'd actually drop O'hAilpin. Jamo is better and with Essendons lack of tall forwards I don't see a reason to keep him in.

I would also drop Banno. Not because he hasn't done a good job but because I don't think they have a running player good enough to place a hard tag on.

I would also bring in Army for Russ to take a small forward and to provide pace and tackling.

I see Essendon lining up something like this

B: Nash Michael Fletcher
HB: Rama Ryder Winderlich
C: Houli Watson Dyson
HF: Jetta McPhee Welsh
F: Davey Loyd Laycock
OB: Hill Stanton McVeigh
I/C: Lovett, Lovett-murray, Monfries, Johns

In response:

In: Armfield, Jamison, Kruezer
Out: Banno, Setanta, Russell

Despite Essendon prob playing McPhee at CHF I'd still leave Waite there for his rebound. It'll also be better for him to just settle in a position.

I'd also like to see Cloke spend more time at CHF and hammer more time 1st ruck. I'd like to see it being something like Hammer 60%, Cloke 20%, Kreuzer 20%.

B: Armfield Jamison Thornton
HB: Scotland Waite Bower
C: Gibbs Hadley Simpson
HF: Stevens Cloke Houlihan
F: Betts Fevola Fisher
OB: Hampson Judd Murphy
I/C: Carrazzo Kreuzer Pfeiffer Edwards

I'm quite surprised to see some of the selections here having Setanta out of the side.

Gehrig kicked 4........normally kicks 6 on us and the first was a blatant push in the back.

Banno has been in our top 3 for the first two weeks, beating Deledio and keeping DalSanto quiet.
Won't be dropped, and one of few guys in our midfield than can run for four quarters.

Bentick? Another underdone mid into the rotation is asking for trouble.

Kreuzer in, for Edwards. Disappeared after a promising start.

Play Kreuzer and Hampson most of the game - one seocnd ruck, the other resting in the F50. Hampson especially should start int he goal square and lead up. Too quick and tall for ANY backmen.

If we lose this week its going to be a VERY long year.

super post!!! Yes totally agree Setanta should be dropped to the ants for this game... let the man get match fit, and plus there isnt a fantastic match up for him here.

Armfield would be a fantastic inclusion considering the pace of Essendon, especially in their forward line. I must stress that this is the game to give this bloke a run, lets not waste anymore time. He showed today in the ants that he is ready for a run.

Bentick will do well to assist with the clearances, and not that he deserves it, but Banno could be dropped to aid Kreuzers inclusion.

It feels so good for the first time in a while, to have trouble picking a team. I know we haven't been playing overly well, but all the signs are there. It's just execution, and the simple little things.

BTW, this is one game where the should be no excuses play houla in defence

actually yeh, thats not a bad idea either. Edwards imo, might be a little selfish. Always wants to go up for the fly when we are more than covered there. All he seems to do there is spoil a potential Carlton mark. If he had stayed at ground level on Saturday night, he couldve had at the very least 3 goals to his name.

Does anyone still think Betts should be omitted? I do. Kicked one freak goal, and apparently thats enough to keep you in a team. Finds the simple things hard does young Eddie

BTW, if we go in with Kreuz, Cloke, and Hammo isn't that a little too top heavy? 3 players rotating through the ruck? havent seen that in a while
