Lately there has been much talk of this drug and its effects on teenagers (and football players).
I know allot of people that used it when I was in high school with mixed side effects. Some where extremely lathargic and sore, while others had constant dry lips and others even had mild depression.
Though all had great results as far as all there acne disapearing.
So for those of you on the board that used this medication how was it and would you recommend it to your child?

Easy answer: No way!!!

Yes it works and works well, but the side effects are just too much to bear. I would suggest in this day and age better treatments will/are available?

From personal experience, I havent used it for 5 years, but I still get constant dry lips, dodgy night vision, and some weird deformities in the tips of certain fingers after a fairly long term dose. There are many other reported side effects too.

For anyone who has used or thinking of using Roaccutane, you might want to check out the Australian Roaccutane Surviors Group. Plenty of stories there to put you off using it I would suspect.

Nope, wouldnt recommend it

Im in the same boat as Diego, i havent used it for about 4 years but am still having side effects.

It works but isnt worth it long term.... although people are willing to pay a high price for Vanity

Aker took it last year. The club new about it because he was getting depressed about the look of his face.

As for recommending the drug to your child. I would say wait until they are over 18.

I'm also a former user - it's been about 10 years since I used it.
Dry lips and some other problems still.
For my thoughts on it - type in roaccutane into the search engine.
There were several threads regarding this when the Aker story broke.

So how is your acne, anyway?

I think that all drugs have side affects, and i have two friends who have been on a form of Roaccotane, think its called Oratane or something... no issues there at all...

i mean use lip balm..?

Isn't that the acne tablet or something? Never used it, and after reading newspaper reports I wouldn't want to - It made people suicidal.

Ive had acne in the past but it was never bad enough to warrant using the drug.
I am just curious because now that I look back on it many of my friends that used it now smoke allot of weed..

I think most of us would use lip balm anyway, not that its a big deal but even using lip balm has some bad points too - from what i read it was akin to putting gladwrap over your lips? I guess it means they don't 'breathe' very well. Thats them breaks I guess!

I used it. Only side-effects I had were dry lips. A week after I stopped using it I was back to normal. On personal experience, I would recommend it for those with severe acne only. Most people can do without it.

My brother also used it, and he suffered dry lips, dry skin, sensitivity to the sun and mood swings. Its been a year and he still suffers from dry skin and sensitivity to the sun (he's tanned, but gets sunburnt like an Irish redhead).

My symptoms exactly (except for the mood swings) ;)

Does different things to different people but i think the major cause for concern here should be that even 5 - 10 years after being on the medication, side effects still exist.

If you don't want to take it then don't. Try the clearasill products.

Clearasil doesn't even hold a candle to Roaccutane. What an ill-informed and naive statement to make.
It's just an alternative to taking a drug that has a lot of side effects. It has no side effects

I am lucky in that I've never had a problem with acne. I occassionally get a pimple here and there, but that's gone the next day. My two brothers on the other hand are the opposite. My older one took the drug but didn't suffer from the side effects as much as others do, with my younger brother just covers his face in clearasil every morning, though it doesn't help, I don't think these type of products do anything. And I think that is delibrate.

I was only looking at an alternative which I use. It works for me and I have a lot of acne.

However, If I had of been recommended to use Roaccutane in the first place, I would of been complaining about all the side effects in it. Just like you and a few others are currently doing.

For the record, one of my friends had to use it and she doesn't have any side effects anymore. She did when she used it. However, her symptoms weren't as bad as yours iceman.

Unlike reading your drivel, which has plenty of side effects.

It's funny when those who should be patronised are patronising.

I used Roaccutane for 2 years (starting when I was 17 and finishing my treatment on my 19th Birthday), and although the side effects I went through were dry lips and skin, and being more prone to sunburn, the results speak for themselves, my acne's virtually disappeared, and most of my acne scares as well, and as for Iceman's statement that it doesn't work, well as far as my results are concerned, that's a load of bull****, but then again, I was one of the lucky ones.

I think Iceman was referring to Clearasil, not Roaccutane ;)

I was on it about 10 yrs ago and I had very severe acne but it cleared it all up without any scaring and the only real side effect I had was the dry lips,no problems for me:D
