Spot on mate :)

Clearasil doesnt work, Roaccutane definetly works albeit with side effects (to this day my skin is extremely dry and sensitive)

Before being able to take Roaccutane, your GP should have prescribed some antibiotics etc before you can get sent to a dermatologist.

I was given about 3 different treatments (to no avail) before my GP allowed me to go to a specialist.

And alcohol was to be kept to a minimum when i was taking Roaccutane

BUMP

Just thought I might bring this thread back up as I've been recommended Roaccutane and will start taking it soon (after some blood tests). Should I be worried?

be careful. A quick glance at the responses to this thread revelas that I've been off it the longest of anyone else who has commented (accept my aplogies if this is incorrect) - 11 years - and I still suffer from a very dry face and some night vision problems.
I'm not saying no - just be careful.

I was prescribed roaccutane back in high school. Whilst my acne has long since cleared up, the top parts of some of my fingers still look like shit. They became kind of soft and my fingernails dug into them. They are still quite red. It also happened on one of my big toes. I had that toe treated for months for the damage that ingrown toenail did. I eventually had an operation on it. Like others, I get dry lips now and then too although I'm not sure if that's a side effect as well or just normal dry lips.

Dave - dry lips def. a side effect. I still suffer from them. I also cant shave my face unless warm water is continually running over it, hurts too much to simply stand at a sink and use the mirror. I have to shave in the shower, if that makes sense.

Ouch. That doesn't sound good at all. My face certainly isn't that sensative. I'd be nervous about shaving in the shower, I certainly wouldn't want to drop that razor.

It is normal to get a blood test before using the drug, the dermatologist will give you the amount to take depending on your weight.

I stopped a few years ago.. and when i think about it right now, I still have some side effects, corner of my lips always dry and split every few weeks, sun is a killer sometimes, when I was on the drug my palms would dry and crack... it hurt to sometimes grip things. It is best to see your doctor first for alternatives, then he will reccomend a dermatologist.

Also.. water is not a good friend for my skin... even now...

Sh*t, i must be one of the really lucky ones. Hardly any side effects whilst using it, absolutely no side effects now that I'm off it.

I'm bloody lucky I got away with it, some of the stuff in here is scary stuff.

n i must be one of the really lucky ones to not get acne in the first place! there seems to be a hell of a lot of ppl that have taken this stuff!

is it really worth it? having dry lips and sensitive skin, farked up nite vision etc etc for years and years and years afterwards? i think i'd be thinking very carefully...

The biggest issue with roacutane is that when people are cured they get on with life, and those that have problems voice them loudly.
Its a fact that the vast majority of people on the drug walk away clear skin and unaffected.
The suicide problem is again blown out of proportion, your taking people who are already depressed, promising them the world and when it doesnt deliver you wonder why the fall back into depression?
I mean think about it "Why do I have acne like this", "Why am I the only one that roacutane didnt work for","My acne will never go away".
Again some people the drug has caused serious problems but ultimately you take more of a risk getting in your car each day.

In future dont presume.

Hi All,

I've recently started taking Oratane (actually, this is only day 2 for me), and this is my first time on any sort of drug for acne. I'm 25 - and fed up with it! The dermatologist has put me on it for 7 months. Obviously, with this being only day 2, I haven't experienced any side effects.... yet. :-)
Was wondering if I could get some feedback from other people who have taken/or are taking it at the moment.
I'm a little worried about the possible side effects wth the drug, mainly the depression. I would think that the depression is more common in people who seem to be a little that way to start with (no offence anyone!) but I have also read a little that people who aren't depressive people to begin with, do get a little down on this drug, or Roaccutane. The dryness etc I think I can cope with.
Your feedback would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Shannon

My wife took it when younger and she told me that her GP was adamant that she be on the pill whilst taking it (even though she was also adamant she was not sexully active) as the side effects if a pregnancy occurs are apparently quite bad.

Her (and a mate of mine who used it) both said one of the side effects they still have to this day is eyesight issues. Wife now needs glasses, and mate needs them he reckons but has not gone to get tested (too proud the blind idiot!!).

I had two courses of roaccutane during adolescence. I suffered dry lips and sensitive skin, blood-shot eyes, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. However, it did its job, and I don't regret taking it, as it allowed me to feel happy and confident again which is extremely important at that age. I would hate talking to girls knowing that all those spots on my face were right in front of them. Sometimes during conversation you'd notice people staring at one or two big ones - terrible for the ego.

It made my hair go curly too, and it only went straight again about 3 months after finishing my second course. Another side effect I had was sensitive (watery) eyes, especially under artificial light like the bright yellow lights of a supermarket.

Didn't have any ongoing side effects though. I actually didn't know that some people don't fully recover from the effects. My skin is clear, and eyesight is 100% about 6-7 years on.
