Wow - thanks guys! There's definitely some mixed responses there. Well, as I said this is only day 2 for me, I'm trying to get into the habit now to moisturise lips etc, so hoping the dryness won't be too severe. I have noticed, however, that I'm needing to drink more water - has anyone else experienced that? I could just be 'imagining' it though. Re: the eyesight though, I've had extremely bad eyes since birth (a side effect of being born early), so I'm hoping that is the end of my bad luck with my eyes :-)
Ebert80 - I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad time with it, was there anything you could do to help releive the nose bleeds?

Maybe this will give me the confience to go out more, it would be nice ot have someone special in my life! Time will tell :-)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

you're not imagining it... the drug dries out your body, it dehydrates you... drinking water will help with the dryness sideeffects, ie. your lips won't be as dry if you drink lots of water... you're still not going to avoid the symptoms, but drinking water helps...

It's good that you're drinking water and moisturising already... But it will not save you!

My lips would begin cracking if I hadn't moisturised within the last 6 or so hours... It's SEVERE...

If you begin getting nose bleeds hit up the chemist for some "Nose Oil" squeeze a couple of drops up each nostril a couple of times a day and you're good to go...

..I didn't feel like I had depression when I was on it...

...But I think I had severe problems with motivating myself...

Also... Within the first 2 weeks you'll get some SERIOUSLY huge pimples! It sucks... but work through it... It's worth it...

Also took it about 3 years ago. The dry lips was tough, but I could not go out in the sun at all my skin just fried. I didn't notice it myself but the family said I was up and down like a yo-yo and was a bit difficult to live with at times. I'm a very laid back sort of bloke and was shocked when they told me this.

My advice to anyone thinking of taking it is to give it a go, it does work, however be very careful and stop taking it if side effects become too much, it's not worth being depressed.

AHH Roaccutane...that's a blast from the past for me.

I took many other drugs to cure my acne, but they were all ineffective.

After being referred to a dermatologist, I think my GP was sick of me complaining about my acne, I first heard about Roaccutane.

I think I took one and a half courses of it about 18 years ago (geez I feel old!):)

I can remember the blood noses, dry skin and lips and was happy to put up with those side effects because my acne was causing depression. But when I found blood on the toilet paper, (rectal bleeding) I started to worry.

Although I hadn't completed the second course, my acne had completely cleared up, so I thought; that's it!! I wasn't going to put up with a bleeding @r5e.

From memory, the side effects wore off pretty quickly after discontinuing the drug.

I have no regrets. I remember my skin was so smooth after taking the drug that I almost cried (probably did:o). I also had my first girlfriend at that time:thumbsu:

Hope that helps and Good Luck!

My missus was on this drug for about a year and got off it just before I met her. The pictures before and after are a massive difference so in that respect she is very happy about it. But of course as many people here have mentioned it does have side effects and she experienced most of those although she did mention depression wasnt an issue at all. All those side effects are now gone and she can even manage to laugh about the difficult times but she wouldnt recommend it unless it was an absolute last resort, which I guess in most cases it is.

I'm not really sure actually about that Shann1983, i think it was just something i had to put up with. I haven't heard of anyone else having that particular symptom so hopefully you won't experience nose bleeds whilst taking Roaccutane

Earlier in the week whilst getting my haircut, my hairdresser pointed out to me a couple of pimples on the back of my neck. He gave me 2 samples of "Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel". I'd never heard of this type of gel before, but i did apply it and it did seem to result in some good improvement. If i get any flare ups i think i'll grab some from the chemist.

Anyway, all the best with your treatment Shann :)

one of my mates had the nose bleeds symptom on roaccutane as well, particularly during sleep.

When my pimples were bad a few years ago I had the option to go on Roaccutane, but didn't want to, and neither did my mum. So I got a prescription from the doctor to use these 2 gels. One was Eryance. It's an alcohol based liquid which is applied to the face for during the day, and over night I used Differin, which contains high amounts of Vitamin A, but it's applied to the face so it's not going to harm you internally. It probably didn't work as well as Roaccutane but it did help me shitloads!

Thanks for all your posts guys (and gals?) sorry I've been a bit out of touch lately, I'm studying as well and I've been busy finishing my last assignment. Handed it in last night! Very happy. Well, this is now day... 9 for me (wow, I thought it had been longer). I'm taking one a night and one in the morning for the moment, then I have to try alternating between two and one per day for a week to see how I'll handle it. Then after that I have to take 2 a day for the rest of the time I have to take it. I've noticed the dry skin, mostly lips, but so far that's going ok. I've noticed putting a shit load of vasiline on my lips at night, and then just normal lip balm during the day, works a treat. No other symtoms as of yet. Did anyone find when they uped their dossage that the symptopms got a lot worse? My skin is still oily - funny, I thought that would have dried up by now. So far so good. My skin is a little worse, but not too bad. :)
Thanks guys - you're really tops for talking about this to me. :thumbsu:
