Well, since the Government only controls 72 of the 76 seats needed to pass legislation it's inevitable that not everything promised pre-election will be able to be delivered.

What's going to hit the policy graveyard? What's going to be heavily modified, or at least consigned to committee hell?

Wilkie has foreshadowed this morning that he won't support the mining tax in the current format, and wants to start again from scratch. Could make things interesting - if it gets watered down too much, will the Greens do an ETS and block it outright?

The most interesting part of all this will be the performance of ALP backbenchers in electorates that have sizeable economies in industrys that are not exaclt "green friendly". I can imagine giys that Sid Sidebottom and Dick Adams may be a little worried. With the Greens having greater scope to introduce bills one can imagine that they willk be seeking ALP endorsement and may well be in a reciprocal mood should the ALP choose not to support some of the things they hold dear. So it is easy to imagine that some backbenchers may well be directed, by their leader and party executive, to support bills that are not entirely in the interest of their electorates.

Regards

S. Pete
