Robbie is in my year level at school and a few weeks ago he was asked to train with Port Melbourne and has been in talks with both Carlton and the Roos every since.

He is about 200cm about 85-90kg, so he is a bit of a rake.
Plays for Oakleigh Charges as a forward KP and can take good grabs. Can also be employed as a ruckman.
He is very good below his knees, fair pace and agile.

He will be going to draft camp this year and I think will almost certainly be picked up in the draft because of his height.

Sounds good! If we pick him up,in a few years they'll have to call our forward line "The Forest"!

Can anyone suggest what would be the logic behind the interest shown in this kid?

Possible reasons are:

1. Insurance in case neither Hale or McIntosh will develop into a topline ruckman
2. Just researching him as they do with 50 other hopefuls

I would say it is more the first one. Don't think they would be inviting just anyone to Port Melbourne.

it would be ridiculous to draft another 200cm forward/ruckman! that would make 3 of them! plus petrie! there's no way a forward line like that would work....the kid might be able to play, but the only reason I would draft him is if he was a really really good draft prospect a better than all of the above, otherwise i'll pass

He plays for the Chargers, they are affiliated with Port, thus he was invited down for a look.

you say this, yet you are one of the strongest advocates to get richo and mckernan over here who just about fall into the same bracket (although richo cant ruck). maybe look to bring him to north they year after this via port melbourne if he plays well there. i still would rather north drafting de luca this year, then going after a kid like this, but if he can play...why not.

yeh i know it sounds hypocritical, but those two are experienced, we don't need another "green" ruckman/forward who will take another 3-4 years to develop into a 1st team player
