Forever and a day, we havent had a sharp goal sneak, who knows where the big sticks are from wherever they have the ball. Wiley was that type of player, who lurked inside the 50 and once the ball was in his hands, knew where they were.
Me thinks we have our goal sneak in Mitch. In any given play, he knows where they are and what type of kick is needed to get it through the big sticks..
P.S Naishy was good, but Wiley was the best...give him 6 touches around goal, and from any angle, from any scrimmage, he just knew where they were.;)

I also think Mitch will go on to impose himself on the contest as his confidence increases. He is built like a tank. If we could add Collardto the mix we'll have two tough and skilled flankers.

Mitch's real strength appears to be his overhead marking as well which makes him a more than handy goal sneak. seems to have shaken the apparent "attitude" problems that seemed to flank him over at the WCE. looks like he is happy playing with our young blokes and seems to have created a bond on the field with Jack and Cleve which will hold us in good stead for the next 10 years if they can develop further.

Disco & Cloke?? ;)

Just watching the way Mitch moved around last week actually reminded me of Steve Johnson from The Cats.
Perhaps won't end up quite as big but with his over-head ability and strength, he provides similar versatility.
A tough match up for defenders I reckon as he "plays tall" but moves more like a crumber sometimes.
A very good get...

Agree with a lot being said here. Morton is a very exciting find for us. He has genuine goal instinct and a big sense of occasion. A lot of his goals have come at critical moments. For mine, he looks likely to be a forward line leader for many years to come. And there's something just so reminiscent of the Tiger forwards of the glory years ( late 60's to mid 70's)...

fairly obscure comparrison Cogg, had the famed No 2 on my back for a while, remebered him as a midfielder more than a goalkicking machine.

I picture Morton as a Ryan O'keefe type, poorer mans version at this point but early days, i reckon he has a heap of improvement in him:thumbsu:

not much of a machine in how many he kicked, more to do with if he had a skerrit of a sniff, he invariably slotted it through, from any angle in any given situation, when playing in the FP. Dead eye dick too. ;)

I remember the day he kicked 7 against the bummers - His goals per game is 1.3.

Also remember the day against the Bombers when Bob slammed into the non-padded goalpost. Was sitting in the old Southern Stand and HEARD it. Ouch. I also loved the look on Bob's face when KB stooged Magro in the '80 GF. He just shook his head and smiled. Still reckon Cotchin moves like Wiley - round shoulders, carries the ball the same.

Wiley was a gun rover as well as being good around the sticks. I don't think Morton will ever be a midfielder. Wiley and Rowlings were as good as any going around in their heydey.
Wiley was one of the nicest guys I ever met. Asked for his autograph at a footy clinic when I was about 7 and he signed with a smile. Not sure why, but I Mark McClure to sign as well and he told me where to go.
Funny how shit like that stays in your mind for 30 years.

No-one got boot to ball quicker and with as much class as the Wiley one.

Actually Cotchin displays the forward lean of Geoff Raines when he runs coupled with the boot to ball deftness of Rob Wiley. Let us hope he goes on to produce what they did at Tigerland.
