Not sure if this has been done before, although I did do a quick search.

So, Rodney Eade as Director of Coaching.....where does he stand with Nathan Buckley? What sort of say can he have in the way that not only Bucks coaches but also the others including the Pies VFL side?

Personally I can only see a positive in having Eade at the club given his experience and drive. Also, someone from outside the club having new views and ideas.

Then again he could always be a good fall guy for the media if shit starts to go wrong this year.

He will actually be a more traditional assistant coach from the old school before we started with the whole 75 coaches thing.

More of an assistant in the 90's structure of coaching.

Which I think is actually a really good thing.

Eade's official title is "Football and Coaching Strategist", so you can read into that what you will.

Interesting to note this quote off the official site though;

Eade will report to Director of Football Geoff Walsh, and strengthens the football department leadership team comprising Nathan Buckley (Senior Coach), Derek Hine (National Recruiting Manager) and David Buttifant (Director of Sports Science).

My read on that is that Eade is part of the main core of the coaching and development group, along with the names listed above, and his immediate boss is Geoff Walsh.

What the exact details of his role are are harder to determine, but it seems as if he will assist Bucks and the other assistants with the football side of coaching, that is the game plan, the development of individuals and the way in which the players go about their football, both in game and at training.

Eade will no doubt be Bucks' right hand man, it's the only thing Mick got right in the article in the other thread, if Bucks' needs any help leading up to or during a game, Eade will be there to help him however he can.

To have Eade in this position is better then having Malthouse IMO, because it gets rid of the baggage associated with the Malthouse/Buckley relationship.

Eade is there to do a job, and will do it to the best of his ability with little fanfare, as Mick would have struggled to not have his head in the limelight.

Rocket is not the director of coaching, he is basically the opposition analyst (Buckley in 2011, Hudson in 2010 had this role) and will help with developing the young assistant coaches and provide support to Bucks if needed.

No probs, was just going on what the Herald Sun had to say. The club has his position as "Football and Coaching Strategist"

Too much focus on definitions. He is a great resource for our club. However it ends up being definied and played out he will be a huge asset and if we go deep into September I will be glad he's there. The rest is just pointless speculation.

There was an article about his role in the HUN last week I believe. Basically he does a little bit of everything, he oversees and assists all the assistant coaches, he helped Buckley hammer out and start implementing the new game plan and basically helps Buckley by giving him that steadying experienced hand. Also at the end of the year apparently he's reporting on how Buckley performed as coach.

Sounds like they have a good rapport in any case, Bucks seems to really respect Eades tactical mind.
