The guy is amazing, some of the run that he provided yesterday out of the backline was amazing. The thing that makes him such a pleasure to watch is he never seems to be trying, it all just comes naturally. With Woods, Hayden, Gilmore, Grover, Walker in the backline this year can you imagine the rebounding oppurtunities that the team will have.

Is it just me or does anyone else believe Gilmore has leap frogged Thornton for a place in the side, I honestly can not see anywhere in the side where Thornton could play.

I wouldn't go that far. Thornton will be a gun, and he is in our best 22 IMO. Having said that, Gilmore looks great and will be a gun also.

I personally have never been a fan of Thornton, He just has not impressed me in the games he has played both for Fremantle and South Fremantle. I just cant see with Grover, Hayden, Parker, Woods, Haddrill, McPharlin, Walker & Gilmore how he could honestly get a game in the backline.

Mate - Thornton - for the amount of balls he shows , to me he still dont cut the mustard- he is a good player but to me he dont seem Freo. Happy Gilmore on the other hand , ive been saying for a while now he is the goods. Gilmore has more self confidence , stronger belief in himself & more importantly reads the game plan better ( Souths best over the last 2 years IMO ) and has superb disposal.

& its true. Hayden is not a natural fitness wise , but skill & vision wise he more than cuts the mustard - he dishes it out. I am so impressed with this guy & Dion Woods, them 2 are the real role models for our indegineous freinds. These 2 have shown the rest of there community and others of what they can do. These 2 had there shortcomings build & fitness wise for AFL ranks when they joined the system , but with hard work & persistence both have matured into little champions of our club. They may not be in the superstar status of a Pavlich or a Bell or Hasleby , but God damn I will say in my eyes if I were coach they would be standing on the very same ground as these guys. Woods is the best kick of the footy at Freo if not the AFL & really I wouldnt care if someone disagreed , & Hayden is right up there with the best of them vision wise.

I shall repeat the sentence which escapes form my lips each and every time I watch Freo - be it on TV or live...

"I love Roger..."

It's usually said in awe and wonderment at how this guy manages to get the ball with such ease and send it back where it came from. I tell ya...

I love Roger.

I'll disagree with you. Wood's disposal by foot has been the weakest part of his game over the last few years. He was guilty of turn the ball over through a sloppy kick many times last season. I thought this was something that Docker fans recognised?

Don't get me wrong, he is a gun player, and Hayden even more so, by Dion is a long way from even being the best kick at Fremantle. I haven't seen any games this year though so he may have, and probably has improved.

Dion is a lovely long raking kick. He is occasionally prone to the odd clanger though which probably would have stood out for you last year. It was against Sydney last year where he had a shocking day kicking the footy and was repeatedly highlight by Dermie... but generally, he is a good kick.

Agree completely. He is generally a beautiful kick who can pick put a team mate 60 mts away when they are surrounded. He kicking did go off a bit as the season went on last year.

I believe that Thornton comes into contention as the other tall backman (193cms) given that Polak may play forward this year, typical Tall backline setup would be:

FB Parker Haddrill Thornton
HB Hayden McPharlin Woods

OR Short backline setup would be:

FB Hayden Haddrill Parker
HB Grover McPharlin Woods

Fair comment... but I can not see Thornton getting a game ahead of Grover...

Imperial, not a question of who is a better player more a question of matchups we need someone to pickup resting ruckman, would not be fair for Antoni to have to pick up say an Everitt, Hille or Gardiner.
I also agree that if Polak plays back Thornton will not get a run.

He is the best kick IMO though I gotta admit his form did drop after his father died last year, but you dont lose the ability ;)
