The Rolling Stones start their 31st global tour in Boston tomorrow as they extend their record as the world's most successful touring band.

every Rolling Stones date in North America is practically sold out with the best tickets having a face price of more than $US450 ($599).

And the music industry is agreed that the Stones' latest world tour will increase their legendary status.
The Rolling Stones are "far and away the most successful touring entity in the history of mankind", Ray Waddell, senior editor at Billboard Magazine, recently told USA Today.

These guys are 60+ years old and way past it but still selling out tours based on the strength of what they contributed to music from the mid 60s to the mid 80s. They're still healthily dining out on what they did between 20 and 40 years ago.

I agree. Well past it, at least they've bothered to bring out a new album to "tour" behind though (cue greatest hits setlist). Those ticket prices are a load of crap. I read an article from Lester Bangs, in 1971 he saw this almost exact situation happening.

Off course the Stones tour and live of past glories, they are widely a nostalgic act and people who go to the shows want to hear the old classics. They have no need to continue touring but the money is there and they have been very successful in touring since the late 80's when they returned to large scal tours after their earlier stranglehold in the late 60's and the 70's.

Paul McCartney is considered similar although he still writes prolific melodies and albums are getting better as he matures, this is post wings I'm talking about. Stones albums are OK but they dont have that each album different from the last philosophy that Paul works on.

Both acts are legendary, sell out nearly all the time, receive rave reviews, command perhaps too much for the average fan, yet given how great they are, to see either live is priceless.

If you see a Rolling Stones show, consider yourself lucky because this may be their final large scale world tour, I dont think they can do these massive tours anymore, but they are guarenteed to continue perhaps on a lesser scale.

The last 20 years or so when you say Stones you immediately think of the legendary rock band who embark on mammoth tours and the juggernaut that keeps rolling on. in the early 70's you immediately though, the greatest rock and roll band in the world who's string of albums from 68 to the mid 70's was only bettered by the Beatles string of albums in their day.

Give the Stones latest CD a listen though, from what Ive heard its not that bad at all.

Just because a bunch of idiots want to see some senior citizens perform as a novelty act, doesn't make them anything special. Just a throw back to the former glory days.
