Was also wondering what has happened to Hilts, was my daughters favourite player until Delido stucks his head in. Now thats all I hear.
Thanks

I've always thought of Rory Hilton as something of a barometer to Richmond's success. When Hilts has played well in the senior side, we look to have a very potent forward line.

He's that wildcard in the pack that has always been very difficult to match up on when playing his best, and by progression takes a lot of heat off the likes of Richo, Staff and formerly Ottens.

Personally I think he's gone, but if he could somehow get back to something resembling his best form, then he'd be a major bonus for us over the next five years.

In the early noughties Rory was developing into an important player for us, but after a series of injuries he seems to have lost or misdirected the hardness he added to the team. Also seems to have struggled a bit with fitness or endurance. Maybe doesn't work hard enough or perhaps just struggled with injuries. Probably now his value is as a pinch-hitter for a quarter or two unless he can overcome injuries and get some fitness about him.

Cost us heaps to get through darft picks, hasn't repaid the club at all and with an interupted preseason this will be his last chance. My money on he will be delisted at the end of the season.

I'd argue the opposite view, that he only plays well when the team is going well (i.e. 2001) and is one of the first to disappear when things get tough.

In his matches last season, he had a great first quarter in his comeback against Hawthorn then did very little of note after that until he was injured.

My standout memory of him last season was early in the Port game (where Richmond had won the previous 3), when he was only half-chasing a loose ball on the wing and a Port player caught up to him from behind and won possession. I remember thinking we weren't switched on for this game and that Hilton hadn't changed his style of play at all.

I don't expect much from him now. If he was ever going to become anything better then a slacker he would've done so by now.

I'm not a fan I'm afraid. Shirks the issue too often for my liking and plays for too many free kicks. Makes me sick that he was labelled a courageous player after being cleaned up by Neitz a couple of years ago.

I never said it was causal, Wags. I just intimated that Rory's form was indicative of our success.

That's what a barometer is ... a measure. It doesn't cause the weather.

Fact is, when Rory was playing well, we were winning.

But you can see the difference in "when we are winning, Rory plays well"
