I recently read this incredible book written by Peter Rose, about the massive effect on the Rose family of his brother Roberts tragic accident.
Bob Rose is recognised as one of our best ever players. His love, strength and humanity as a parent makes his football career pale into insignificance in comparison.
Peter Rose is a beautiful writer.
It is not an easy read, as quadraplegia is horrendous for anyone. Peter outlines it all, with Robert being an amazing person through out despite the desperate hand he has been dealt.

Will also look forward when South of the Yarra gvrs a little take on Bob Rose.

The measure of Bob Rose even more than his brilliant play was how he looked after his son Robert.

Nothing defines him more. A father of wonderful love.

ps and his grand final coaching losing by 4 points, 1 point, 10 points.
Oh oh oh.

pps he always was a premiership player of 1953.

They named a stand after him and he was worth a whole lot more than that!
Bobby was a leader of men and simply the best of our best. Half a lifetime later and I can still see him bursting through packs and leaving opponents sprawling behind him, clutching at air.

My Dad was here on Friday for dinner. I gave him the book to read and asked him if Bobby was really as good as they say.
He didn't hesitate. Better he said.
Reckons he single handedly lead in the last quarter of the 53 flag. Told the Rickman to move away at the centre bounce, grabbed the ball from the bounce, sprinted 15 yards and kicked it 60m to help seal the game . He also said Bobby Davis was incredible in the same game and almost won it for Geelong. .

Will make sure I give a take on the great man in my next installment of Collingwood Greats.

A wonderful and moving book. Beautifully written by Peter Rose. How much tragedy can one family endure?
