I would think that Morra will be part of our plans for next year, Ross has at his disposal several
players who are part of the plan for this year.
A full year to test out his recon, plus a proper pre-season should have him primed to dominate
games, and I think the competition for spots will shrink, with player movements.

Mora simply must get 2-3 game this year before the finals. If he gets the opportunity and does not take it, that is fine but he defiantly could improve our side come finals.

Love the bloke but would be a pain in the neck to interview.

He seemed to be in a less receptive/jovial mood this week. I didn't have a good look at Zac's movement, so I don't know whether he looked sore or not... but Ross seemed pretty adamant that he was OK. Maybe Karl saw Zac moving with a bit of hindrance, maybe he just looked on Bigfooty and picked up some rumours...

Who knows.

But yeah, Ross definitely has his pricklier moments. There were more sprinkled in that interview than I've seen from him with Karl and Brad for a while. They usually get a bit more latitude from RTB than they did on this one.

I'm not saying any player should be dropped for Morra - all our mids/wingers have been doing very well lately in my book... I just can't shake the feeling that Ross has a plan for Morra over and above what he's letting on. Couple of weeks ago he was intimating Morra could play anywhere, now he's intimating that he's a winger/inside mid... though that could be just Ross defending Sylvia's place in the team.

My thought on the Mora response is that Ross will bring Mora in when he sees a spot that he can fill better than the incumbents. Mora played for Peel a lot off the HBF earlier in the season, but we have a heap of options there... and some terrific players. Pretty unlikely that Mora could crack a spot there.

Mora has been running around as a genuine mid for Peel for a few weeks now... dunno if he's been playing as a HFF much, which is where Sylvia has been given a run. In terms of bang for buck, Mora could add a lot to our midfield rotation when he's built the fitness to run there. Sylvia has done his penance in the WAFL, and was running around as an inside mid/HFF for a few games to show what he could do... and has been pretty solid at AFL level since he's stepped up. If RTB sees a spot for Mora as a Sylvia replacement, then I suspect he'll run Mora at HFF more for Peel rather than as an inside mid/wingman.

Summary, I think that we've been going OK on the HBF and HFF in recent weeks and that a slot on the wing/inside mid rotation is where Ross sees Mora having the most positive impact on the team. For Mora to handle that spot, his conditioning is going to have to be really good... and he might need more time at Peel to prove those running KPIs. Sylvia is doing a solid job up forward, so I can understand that RTB doesn't want to crowbar Mora into a spot up forward just to squeeze him into the team... especially when Sylvia has been showing a bit, and looks likely to have a breakout game in the coming weeks.

Fyfe is quick. Also has cat like reflexes.
And fly paper for hands.

I don't think he's especially quick... has decent pace but doesn't look much above average... but he's very agile, and reads the play so well that he's a step ahead of the others, and that makes him look quicker.

His one touch handling is what really sets him apart... he doesn't need to waste time bumbling after the ball, and he retains that ability even at pace; add those two together and it gives him separation on everyone else at the clearances, which is why Sandi has been trying to pick him out so frequently in recent weeks.

I'm happy if Mora spends all year in the two's gets a injury free preseason to hit his straps and plays next year. Given how much footy he missed I wonder if he would be able to step into the 22 and perform as well as others.

You should get off the fence and come out of the closet as a Freo fan.
You know you want to. :straining:
You know it's a strange world when I find some of ep2006 posts more enjoyable to read and better informed than some of our fellow Freo posters.

Maybe we can convince the poor bugger to do a Crippa ;)

I was going to change my name to fp2013 if you won the flag last year. ;)

If he can get in and replicate his WAFL form he'd be a weapon though. Imagine another 190cm big body at the stoppages. Not only that he'd be a big body with real break away speed. I can't help but feel that either we'll see him in the next 2-3 rounds, or we probably won't see him at all this year.

Agree, we're very close to the point where we either bring him in and see what he can contribute to the side or we hold off on this year and focus on keeping a consistent and balanced 22 heading into the finals. The time for tweaking our structures and experimentation is just about done. Since Sylvia was brought in and since Taberner was played as a FB I have enough hope that Mora isn't far away.

Great post, just to add to that I'd think someone like Suban who has often been in and out of the side and doesn't (still) at this stage seem to have a definable and tangible role in the side is going to be at huge risk if he has a couple of "down" games that he otherwise would have been.

Hate to even contemplate it but I have a sneaky supicision this also applies to Neale and Sutcliffe. Can anyone honestly say they don't think Clancee is a good chance of taking Sutty's spot in coming weeks? Clancee isn't going to keep being made sub and is going to get regular full games before long.

I don't know how to say this kindly but MDB is not going to play again this year surely? Only just now have I remembered him...

Sutcliffe and Neale are locks and De Boer will play if not this week but the next.
All are in the 22 so the doubters should just get used to it

Sutcliffe and Neale are here to stay under Ross (and he made it very clear where De Boer stands as well). Likewise Taberner is in the good books. We should all know how to read RTB-speak by now!

Ok then. I can honestly say I can't see Clancee taking Sutty's spot in the lineup in the near future.

Suttcliffe wasn't good on the weekend he was bloody brilliant on Darling. Has put himself in a new light for me and probably the coach. He is able to play on strong sizeable forwards.

Well then the next question is, what's Clancee's future then? Why is he even being played? Stopgap solution until Mora comes in? Doesn't sound too likely, in the next few weeks someone who has been a regular for this season is going to have to make way and it will be a bitter pill to swallow. Not sure we really need all of Ibbo/Duff/Clancee in the team and then you take into account MJ is another rebounding type.

Err I'm not a doubter (especially the former two) I'm just speculating on who will be forced to make way for Mora/MJ/Walters/Luke. Some favourites are going to be dropped like it or not.

Clancee is not currently best 22 when the team is at full strength. He is great for depth and we are all still happy when he gets a game.

Clancee gets a game ahead of Mora because he can run better. Remember when Clancee went from an out of shape WAFL dominator to running with our best in preseason time trials? He has those years of high load running under his belt and his body has built around it.

You can't run ten laps a day and then compete in an iron-man.
