Rottnest Reward Youngsters

Rottnest today confirmed contract extension for 2nd year players Tom Swift, Nick Naitanui and Stephen Hill. All three players have signed on for an extra year which see's them tied to the club until 2012.

Club spokeman Mustapha Rumancola had this to say.

"This announcment is reward for three of our brightest young players at the club who we believe will be a massive part of our future going forward. We would have liked to extend their contracts even more beyond 2010 but due to salary cap etc we just couldnt afford anymore then the one extra year. We have three quality players who are still under 20 and played some great football last season in their debut season's so we are delighted that they have recommited until the end of 2012"

In another announcment the club also confirmed that rookie listed players Micheal Jamison and Callum Wilson have been promoted to the senior list for the next two seasons.

Rumancola said "We had no option with Jamo as his rookie list length was up so we had to decide whether to promote him or move him on. He has been on the rookie list the last few seasons and was promoted during the last two due to long term injuries so we know he can handle the big game situation and we had no hesitation whatsoever in promotion Jamo. With Callum we have bene very impressed with his work rate and ethic at training and he has shown leaderhsip qualities all of this coming from a rookie listed player. His form in the reserves was very very promising and we are delighted to have him on the senior list until 2012" "We have also retained Jay Van Berlo and Will Sullivan on the rookie list for a further year"

In delistment news the club have delisted Adam Simpson and will pay out 75% of his contract this season, they have also delisted Henry Playfair and the rookie listed Johnny Bennell and Liam Bedford - More possible delistments to be announced.

BREAKING NEWS!!! - Rottnest Captain Pavlich has been traded

Rottnest wishes to advise its members and supporters that club captain Matthew Pavlich has been traded to Melbourne in a trade that was confirmed this evening.

The trade details are as follows.

Matthew Pavlich and Pick 46 to Melbourne in exchange for Ryan Schoenmakers, Pick 12 and Pick 35

Club spokesman Mustapha Rumancola had this to say on the trade.

"Yes it may come to a bit of a shock to some of you that Pavlich has been traded and dont get us wrong it was a tough decision but this trade was for the long term future of the club"

"As you are probably all aware Matthew only had 1 year to run on his contract which meant we would of had to bid to retain him in 2010 and match offers from rival clubs...Trading him now clears some much needed cap space which will put us in a good position to bod on uncontracted players from other sides once we search through our list of players of interest."

"We get a young defender in Ryan Schoenmakers who we have certainly been impressed by in his games so far in his short career and we believe he will continue to flourish in an environment that see's him join alot of other youngsters."

"We also get a first round pick (Pick 12) which means we have two first rounders in which to pick the cream of the crop in this years national draft...We also managed to upgrade our 4th round draft pick for a 3rd round draft pick which is also handy"

"We wish Matthew all the best at his new club in Melbourne and we would all like to thank him for leading this young side the past few years and i know our young crop have learnt a hell of a lot under him"

A new captain of the side is expected to be announced within the next few weeks.

Rottnest sign Surjan for 3 years, Staker and Wilkes traded to Port.

Rottnest have completed their second trade by sending Brent Staker and Beau Wilkes to Port Adelaide in exchange for West Australian Jacob Surjan.

Coach peterss had this to say upon the trade being completed and confirmed.

"Obviously being a club based in Western Australia we are always on the look out for Western Australian players to bring home to play for us...We have been interested in Surjan for a while now and when we saw he was uncontracted and that Port Adelaide were after some key position defenders we decided to start talks with Port"

"Staker was uncontracted for us and Wilkes still had one year left to run on his contract. We decided we needed to offload some tall timber as we seem to have a plethora of them and especially given the rookie promotions of Callum Wilson and Micheal Jamison it was clear both Brent and Beau's chances would be limited so they agreed to a move in the hope of more oppurtunity"

"We had to trade the two of them in a package as we wanted to get our list number down to the required 38 players needed so we know exactly what we have to work with."

"We wish Brent and Beau all the best at Port Adelaide"

Rottnest complete their third trade.

Rottnest have tonight confirmed their third trade with young key position player Beau Dowler being traded to the Western Vultures in exchange for young West Australian defender Paul Bower.

"We are delighted to get Paul to our club as he is a young West Australian player who we rate and definately see him as part of our future going forward. We are sad to see Beau traded but we done the trade in the best interest of the club and to get another West Australian born player to our club is fantastic. We rate Beau as a player and wish him all the best at his new club in the Vultures"

Rottnest welcome Jones, MacKay and farewell Ray, Winderlich

Rottnest this afternoon confirmed their fifth trade of the period by trading Farren Ray and Jason Winderlich to West Coast in exchange for exciting youngster David MacKay and tough nut Clinton Jones.

Coach peterss had this to say at today's press conference.

"We rated both Farren and Winders very highly but as is always the case in this game they were due to come out of contract at the end of the coming season which meant we would of had to try retain them through the bidding process which also means an increase in players salary etc."

"We are dissapointed to lose them but to get both Clint and David to this club both on 4 year deals is what sealed it for us. We are always looking towards the long term future of this club and to get two young players on long term contracts and not having to enter the bidding process next season to retain Farren and Jason"

"We wish both Farren and Winders all the best at West Coast and we look forward to getting Clint and David over here as early as possible to join in pre-season training and we see them as being great players for us in the future"

Another trade for Rottnest!

Rottnest tonight made another trade with midfielders midfielders Brock McLean and Robert Eddy being traded to Adelaide in exchange for promising youngsters Bachar Houli and Adam Cockie.

"Brock was good value for us the last few season's and we are sad to see him go as we saw him as a leader on the field but we believe we have a ready made replacement for him in Bachar Houli who we have actually been trying to chase for the last few seasons. Adam Cockie also gives us another tough in and under midfielder for the future - We believe both players will play their part in a Rottnest side in the next few years"

It is believed that Houli has signed a 4 year deal whilst Cockie has signed a 3 year deal and that Robert Eddy wanted a move to another side in search of more game time

Rottnest sign young gun Ebert for 5 years

Rottnest today completed another trade and finally got a player they have been chasing heavily the past two seasons.

They had to give up a quality player in Shaun Burgoyne to get young gun midfielder Brad Ebert. Rottnest also gave up pick 35 as part of the trade.

Coach peterss was present at tonights announcment and had this to say.

"First and foremost we are absolutely stoked to get Brad on a long term contract...We rate him extremely highly as both a player and in terms of leadrship qualities and were prepared to give up a big name in return for the exciting young Ebert."

"Shaun has been great for us the last few years but he is 27 at the moment whilst Brad is not even 20 yet so it was another trade where we were looking towards the future and we believe we have one of the best youngsters in the competition and will be a quality long term player for us in the future"

Rottnest farewell the youngest selwood

Rottnest tonight traded young Scott Selwood and pick 12 to Geelong in exchange for Pick 9 and Pick 16.

Rottnest coach peterss had this to say about the trade.

"We are dissapointed in losing Scott Selwood but to get pick 9 aswell as pick 16 for him was a fair deal in our opininon....We have to remember that Scooter was out of contract at the end of the season and we would of had to have bidded on him to retain his services...We are now set up to pick some good youngsters in the draft with 3 first round draft picks which are picks 6, 9 and 16 and we look forward to our recruiting staff knuckling down over the next few weeks to decide who they want to bring to our club in the draft period."

Rottnest announce 2010 leadership group

The coaching and playing staff of Rottnest today and have decided their leadership group for the 2010 season.

Brad Sewell has been announced as the clubs new captain and he will be joined with another four players who will all form part of a 5 man leadership group for the coming season.

The vice captains are Adam Schneider and Aaron Davey whilst the deputy vice captains is new young recruit Brad Ebert aswell as Jarrad Waite

A club spokesman had this to say "We are delighted to announce Brad Sewell as captain of our side for 2010. He is a quality player and loves playing for this club and it was no surprises to see every other player apart from Brad himself nominating him for captain"

"We believe that Adam and Aaron as the vice captains is another good move for this club...We have such a young list that it was vital the more senior players were appointed as leaders to help develop and nurture the young talent we have on our list"

"Ebert we rate highly and his appointment as part of the leadership group shows that the whole club rates him as a future captain of this club and already see him as having great leadership qualities both on and off the field. Jarrad came to us last season and was in great form before his season ending injury but he is on the come back trail and also consider him a great leader for the youngsters we have at our club...Especially our key position players"

Rottnest continue to draft WA talent

The Rottnest Razorbacks have continued to draft promising WA youngsters in the draft by snaring rebounding defender Brad Sheppard with Pick 6 and impressive midfielder Kane Lucas with pick 9....The Razorbacks have one pick remaining in the draft...A club spokesman had this to say on draft proceeding's so far.

"With Brad Sheppard it was certainly a needs pick as we were after a rebounding defender who can eventually play through the middle later on in his career....Brad's quality of disposal is one of the main reason's we picked him at Pick 6 over some other players who you may believe are rated a better player then Brad but we have full faith in Brad and look forward to seeing him down at training tomorrow morning."

"In Kane Lucas we have a quality young midfielder to add to our already impressive list of young midfielders......We were undecided on this pick as we had some players on our draft list who we wanted but thought they would be drafted sooner but they werent so we had to make a decision and we went with Kane who will fit into our midfield perfectly. Brad Sewell has already asked to take Kane under his wings and develop him as soon as possible....He will be a quality player for us"

Asked on who they will take with their last pick the clubs spokesman said this...

"Well so far we have added a rebounding mid sized defender and a midfielder so you would imagine we would be looking at some kind of KP prospect. With ex captain PAvlich being traded a KP forward may be chased but we cant say to much until we see whose available at the time of our next pick"

Rottnest wfinalise list by wlecoming Mumford

Rottnest Razorbacks have tonight finalised their list for the 2010 season by drafting ruckman Shane Mumford to the club. Coach peterss had this to say...

"We are happy with the drafting of Mumford to the club....We were tempted to go after a key position forward after the trading of pavlich but after going through the list of available players and seeing Shane available we decided to pick him"

"We have to young ruckmen in Naitanui and Griffin but still see them as developing ruckman and then theres also Tippett who can also play in the ruck but we want him as a forward mainly so bringing in Shane gives us three potential options in the ruck and its what we needed seeing as all three are young and still developing"

"We rate Shane highly and definately see him playing some games for us next season and we look forward to seeing him at training for the first time tomorrow morning"

Rottnest delist Davis making room for PSD pick

Rottnest Razorbacks have today confirmed that young defender Ryan Davis has been delisted by the club after a mutual agreement between both parties.

Rottnest will continue pay out 75% of his contract in this season's TPP.

As a result of this delistment it allows Rottnest to take 1 pick in the pre-season draft along with some rookies in the rookie draft.

Club spokeman Mustapha Rumancola had this to say.

"We wish Davis well in his future, whatever that may be...He came to us a few days ago to say that he was looking at leaving the club to take up a career elsewhere so we worked out an agreement that satisfied both parties."

"It now gives us one pick in the pre-season draft and as for who we take with this pick depends on where in the draft our pick is and who is available at the time....It also allows us to add some rookies to our list also in the hope of developing them into senior players in the future"

Yet another WA Product joins Rottnest's senior list.

After the delisting of Ryan Davis the Razorbacks have added yet another WA youngster in former Peel Thunder midfielder Ben Howlett to the senior list.

A club spokesman said this today.

"This announcment is a bit late as he joined us before christmas but today was the first day back at work for everyone in the office (Players and coach were only ones doing stuff)....From all reports Ben has been training the house down and the coaching staff have been very impressed with his work rate and how he has settled in so quickly."

The former Peel Thunder midfielder had this to say at todays announcment.

"Its been great training with the lads and getting a pre-season game or two under my belt.....I feel great and am aiming to surprise a few and get a debut game in a razorbacks jumper in round 1."

Also in todays announcment the club confirmed and officially welcomed the new rookies to the club.

Pre-season draft news

Rottnest today took part in their first trade of the pre-season trading period with Adam Schneider heading to Collingwood in exchange for promising rebounding defender Josh Drummond who returns to the club after a few years at other clubs.

A club spokesman had this to say at today's announcment.

"We are dissapointed to lose Adam but he approached us yesterday wanting a move over east citing family reasons for his decision....When Virgil (Collingwood coach) approached us about being interested in Scheider and offering Josh Drummond straight up we were definately intrerested so that we could give Adam his move request"

"Josh is a player we rate extremely highly and one who has played for us before aswell so its great to have him back....He will add great rebounding abilities out of defence and he still has his best football ahead of him."

"The fact that we could get him for a 3 year contract aswell made us seriously consider it as we want to build a dynasty here and Adam was out of contract and no doubt we would of had to bid for him to try retain him after this season."

Josh Durmmond was available for comment at today's announcment and had this to say.

"Its great to be back in Rottnest colours.....They are a professional club and have fantastic facilities and i cant wait to get out on the training track and show the coaching staff just exaxctly why they have done the right thing in trading for me"

"Adam has been a great servant of our club over the last few years and he is a true professional and we wish him all the best at his new club in Collingwood."

The deal would have gone ahead yesterdya but a few finer details needed clarification with the leagues administrators.

It is believed both players contract for this season will be payed by their old clubs and then from 2011 onwards the players current clubs take over the contract.

Is Mitch Brown tradeable yet? Or have you decided to continue holding him against his will here? ;)

LOL! Hes happy as larry over here in the west!

That sid feel free to make me an offer but you have to make the offer and has to be a very good one at that.....Browns on a cheap long term contract and is a gun so will be very hard for you or anyone else to get.

FB: Paul Bower - Stephen Gilham - Jacob Surjan
HB: Joel MacDonald - Jarrad Waite - Josh Drummond
C: Ben Howlett - Tom Swift - David MacKay
HF: Stephen Hill - Mitch Brown - Kyle Reimers

Int: Shane Mumford, Jarryd Morton, Chris Yarran, Andrew Raines, Kane Lucas, Brett Jones, Will Schofield, Darcy Daniher, Ryan Schoenmakers

Rottnest coach peterss had this to say about the side that was named.

"We are happy with the side and believe it can definately be competitive against the strong Gold Coast side that has been named. The players selected are the ones who have been the most impressive throughout the pre-season so they have been rewarded for their efforts with a round one selection"

"Those one the bench were very close to selection and its great to have some depth this season and no doubt theyll play their part this season but for now they have to continue to impress in the reserves and stack their claim for a senior berth."

"Bachar Houli unfortunately had to be a late withdrawal due to injury so youngter Tom Swift gets his chance in the starting side after a very impressive hitout in the reserves last week proved his fitness"

"Brad Sewell is the obvious big name missing and we still dont know exactly when he will be able to return to the side but the medical and physio staff are working with Brad to ensure that he returns at the earliest possible time"
