Thanks Alesana.

A few people crying for Duggan to be removed as captain after one game is way over the top. Just go watch his game again and slow it down/pause it and have a look around. Not his greatest game for the club, however, was no where near our worst and continually cracks in.

I found he was doing a lot of dirty work, playing as a defensive midfielder which means if you do get possession, your opponent is next to you, because that's your job.

I went through each touch and that is below (apologies if too long, just feel the amount of hate is unjustified):

1st quarter
19:46 (on clock) – Jumps and intercepts Dixons hit out to Rozee deep in D50. By the time he lands, he has Rioli in his face and quickly kicks the contested ball out of the pack. It roles to a Port player on the 50m line, so a clanger, but limited options and difficult conditions.

17:37 – Good tackle on Wines. Ball up.

15:52 – Uncontested mark, kicks backwards to an unmanned Cole, possession maintained.

15:28 – Falls into the back of Butters trying to punch the ball away. Free kick against.

14:09 – Both Duggan and Rozee go to ground, Duggan gaining possession as he falls and is immediately tackled, ball rolls out and he grabs it again (with assistance from Finlayson). Holding the ball against (turnover).

8:45 – Crumbs from a marking contest, is facing our D50, has Rioli closing and slams it on the boot from the pack which goes out on the full. When you freeze frame after he kicks, there is six Port players surrounding three Eagles players in a similar distance to where it went out on the full.

8:34 – Gathers again from a marking contest and is again met with an immediate tackle, manages a forward handball to Gov and the Eagles clear.

8:13 – Free kick against for chasing Butters and pushing him in the back (or side) as he kicks. If anything, it’s a professional foul, slows play down and allows us to get numbers into D50.

6:18 – Wins a free inside D50, switches to the other side, possession maintained.

2nd Quarter

19:51 – Just a s**t handball, he tries to perfectly weigh it over the top, probably as TK is the better kick to a leading forward, but it doesn’t come off. Butters reads it well and doesn't commit to Duggan's body as he probably also sees Wines closing on Duggan. Results in a tackle and ball up.

13:53 – Kicks the ball out of the air whilst manned up and it lands in a Port players lap. Slightly unlucky but a clanger nonetheless.

10:04 – No excuse, just flat-out crap kick, regardless of your kicking ability. Uncontested and three good options, however, out on the full, a clanger.

9:55 – kick from the pack, possession maintained and Eagles clear.

9:12 – Courageous mark back with the flight and Dixon closing very quickly. Quick handball, possession maintained.

5:34 – Handballs forward whilst being tackled and possession is turned over. If he doesn’t get that out, it is probably holding the ball.

3:47 – Handballs whilst being spun in a tackle, ball is turned over. Port player tackled out of bounds, throw in.

3rd quarter

15:08 – Just needed to be cleaner below his knees and he’d have an easy goal. Burton ends up with possession.

7:36 – Uncontested handball receive and goal from 45.

4:50 – Uncontested mark and quick kick forward to a 50/50, which wasn’t on, port win possession after the spoil.

4th quarter

14:23 – Runs inside 50 and hits Petch on the chest.

4:50 – Gathers from a contest and handballs out the back to Hough who clears.

1:02 – kicks inside 50 to where Allen (surely unwell?) should be leading to, however, Zerk Thatcher beats him to the ball, drops the mark and Long gathers.

That has got to be the worst game Jayden Hunt has played for us after what was a stellar previous season. Kick out duties were dreadful same old kick to the right hand wing that got gobbled up by Ratugolea. Poor defensive efforts and his kicking skills around the ground were below average. The whole defensive setup was garbage besides McGovern who could go another year if he keeps his body together, need to trade in a small defender for cheap who can play lockdown, free up Hunt to run and gun and not be a liability with their defensive efforts ala Witherden.

Awesome work again.

Was feeling a bit down about Sunday vs the Giants, but the Reid clip is getting me excited just to see him live for the first time. Such a naturally good footballer.

Chesser had a great burst as the sub. Hope he can follow it up.

Yeah, Damn, Chesser looks a million bucks out there. If he had of been in the starting line-up and was that consistent and played that well for four quarters he would have been about our best player.

His Time on Ground was 38%. 88% (about what Duggan and Kelly played) is 2.3 times more.

So, his stats, full time would translate to:

18.4d, 4.6cl, 2.3g, 16.1k, 2.3h, 2.3m, 9.2i50s, 13.8 si,

Quiet first game for Brocky overall but geez this guy is going to be an absolute weapon for us. Really good pressure, lightning fast, great vision, balanced, good skills. Heaps to like about him, can’t wait to see him on Optus
