Canberra was cold.
I knew it had been a cold summer, but I had forgotten just how damn cold the nation's capital could be. The wind cutting across Lake Burley Griffen was cutting through my layers like the MCG swirl in mid-July. I shuddered.
Wandering over to check out StarTrack Oval, the home of the Giants, I was stopped by the AFP.
"Striker475? Tone wants a word."
Confused, I followed the officer. On the fence, watching the young Giants train, was our Prime Minister, decked out in a charcoal-and-orange tracksuit. A bike sat next to him; it appeared he was on his morning ride.
"These Giants are the future. Australia looks to Giants to build its future, as we can see here," Abbott proclaimed, still leaning across the fence, watching intently.
"Uhh...Mr Prime Minister...how do you know wh-"
"And Giants do great things. They build. They conquer. They slay the world's demons...whether they be on or off the field!"
"Uhh...Pri-"
"THESE GIANTS WILL SHOW US THE WAY OF A BETTER, MORE PROSPEROUS AUSTRALIA!"
With that, Abbott ripped off his tracksuit, showing off a pink-and-yellow pair of Speedos. He proceeded to jump on the bike and speed off toward the lake. Two of the AFP officers panicked and cried out; a third jumped back on his pushbike to follow our nation's leader.
I looked at the fourth officer, whose head was in his hands.
"That's the fourth time this week. Giants supporters are crazy."
