Olinda probably outplayed the Hawks for 2 1/2 quarters, but hung in until their smaller players took over, who, with Juice became unstoppable in the second half. 38 and still a spring chicken.
Olinda will bother most sides. They were very good until they ran out of legs.
A couple of young debutants for The Hawks drew supporters smiles!

Did the olinda 2nds coach speak about the bombers come back Friday night at half time?
I see you went as a supporter not a parent Monnie?
Is Tim playing this year or tappering off a massive per season?
Still one of the best utilities the league has seen in ten years plus

My timing is brilliant, haven't looked on here for ages and I see this lol

1. I did speak about them yesterday, not sure when I did. Can't stand them but Friday night was as good as it gets for resiliance, backs against the wall etc.
2. Monnie went as a parent not expecting to be a supporter, last minute change there.

Monnie spot on with M.Hughson, was getting beaten by one of our young blokes for 2 and half Qtrs then proceeded to shred the game to pieces. Life in the old boy yet !!

having watched those young fellas play juniors, I can tell you that while one of those boys is quite short, he will no doubt set an example for the whole club with regards hardness at the ball. Hits like a truck!

Nice words, Bertron. Thanks.
Tim jagged his hammy on Thursday and decided to rest it. Keen to keep going (looking at 300?), but is eclipsed by Juice by some 8 years! An amazing effort from Juice. One of our all-time greats, imho. Walk up Hall of Famer when he retires in 2023!!
Monny are going to find depth a problem as the season pans out, but it was great to see David Burke's comeback in the 2's. Still an exciting player.
Wardy impressive as a coach. Getting the most out of the boys.
I didn't hear Scotty's message as coach, but their players were way too good. Their firsts also know what the game is about. Gee, they moved it well and were all over us. Monny just gritted it out and it fell into place late in the game. Great win.
And the return match mid-winter is at home! :D
Tim, how goes the redevelopment planning?

I went and saw this game, got to get the Olinda one's out of the way before winter sets in! Olinda probably won most of the areas that stats. are kept in except two; efficiency and, the most important one, the scoreboard. Kicking 2 goals 8 in the second quarter really hurt them. Number 16 (Bedford - Lee?) for Monbulk certainly knows how to find the footy. Pretty hard to judge a season on one game, but I'm not sure if either of these two will feature in September. But then again, if last season is anything to go by, who knows?

A couple of other observations. I thought the umpiring was first rate. They were not to technical and just let the players play. I was also expecting to see some progress on the new clubrooms, but nothing. What's happening there TS? Actually, I bet I can answer that in four words - Shire of Yarra Ranges.

Seville have a few to come back in but would need to still improve dramatically to keep up with them.

Really enjoyed the night footy, something different.

Healesville looked streets better. Bit of a wake up call for the blues, think they have a good side but have a lot of work to do if they want to match them. The amount of regular senior players in seville's 2s looked like a good indication that they must of had an ordinary pre season. Healesville looked as strong as any side to play second divy in the last 10 years. Reminded me of when warby came down for a year and dominated.

Seville unders looked very good, think they were 15 goals straight at one stage. 2s was a quality game as well.

Umpiring was exceptional, as good as I've seen for ages.

Clubrooms have been put back 2-3 months due to a couple of unforseen issues. In all honesty though, the logistics of running a footy club are more difficult than running a cricket club, so a Sept start date is not the end of the world. Also better weather for the build so makes more sense. One more year in the old house ! SOYR have been pretty good right throughout..

Mostly cricketers in the 2s. Jones, troyan and aikens all played in the cricket GF so wouldn't have trained much. Didn't think they had a huge impact in the 2s until the last quarter.

Agree with the wake up call. Seville have recruited well but healesville are still up to divy 1 standard. Fitter, smarter and looked a class above. I think seville have the cattle to compete with them but they have a fair bit of work to do.

Not sure if it had an impact or not but the Seville cricket presentation night had been planned for Sat night for ages (before the night match was planned I think). Don't know how many combined cricketers / footballers play for Seville but there was a clash with the night match.

Some of the pre-season predictions went out the window. Gembrook could well nab a flag at 4th attempt, Mt.Ev in no hurry to check out Divvy 2, loving the unexpected.

Maybe just early season settling into game plans or maybe a very interesting and close tussle in the top divvy and will still take a few weeks to work out some order.

Russell Robertson apparently confirmed as a certain starter for Monbulk against Upwey in ANZAC Day clash. Should bring a crowd to the slant.

Wonder if the coach is footing the bill out of rumoured windfall he signed for.

Here we go again old fingy boy. Whats his supposed windfall thirty fourty large cause monny seem to be a club who spend big. Maybe you work for the ato and thats how you know how much everyones on or maybe not cause from what i can gather and i reckon alot of people on here may agree with me but i would think 95% + of paid players in the valley get cash in hand which makes it quite hard to trace and quite silly to officially record. So once again can you please just give us a hint as to how you know what everyone is on. And i do realise you said rumoured but youve also claimed to know the goings on of at least three clubs, let us know champ we are all mates.:)

Great round in Div 1 tomorrow.
Will questions thrown up in round 1 be partly answered?
Belgrave on their home deck surely hard to beat?
Monbulk better than expected on a hard fast dry track?
Are Emerald improved on last year? A win at Upwey (premiership favourite) says YES
Wandin should win by plenty...shouldn't they?
Mt Ev and Gembrook both surprise winners Round1. Mt Ev win again - another ridiculously close season awaits us.
Olinda push Woori at home and we've got 10 teams capable of playing finals

How good is YV senior footy going?
Pity about the strength of the u/18 comp :-(

There are a lot of good questions thrown up every week Rockin but most years the answers always seem to be the same. Upwey & Gembrook are class units. Woori just keeps finding a way to get it done. Wandin are an enigma. Their best footy is fantastic but just cant seem to put together 4 qtrs. Mt Eve, Warby & Olinda give a good honest contest but always seem to end up a couple of goals short of the big boys. Monbulk in the past have always been competitive during home and away & this year may not be any different. Still cant quite get a handle on where Emerald & Belgrave will fit into things

One thing has'nt changed in the YV. Come to the comp with a big reputation and you are untouchable. Cannot give away a free it seems.

fair call.
add the bombers as an enigma, moanbulks era may be over, bullgrave to get better, cupwey will extend the baggers run of outs in september.
