Looks exactly the same as the old NRL game that was on PS2. Was pretty shit, but always fun to play with mates.

Really want them to bring out another Rugby, even though I prefer league the Rugby games were always awesome.

Jonah Lomu Rugby FTW ;)

Anyone pre ordering?

ok well i literally just had a glance of the trophies and the second listed trophy (which is a GOLD trophy) is to LOSE :eek:the NRL or SL grand final........ummmmmmmmmmmm wtf.

the rest of the trophies look pretty easy and mainly silvers and golds.

one of them is basically identical to another as well

GOLD *Try Machine* "have a player in your team score the most tries in a season"

SILVER *Top Gun* "have a player in your team score the most points in a season"

very similar but POSSIBLE to not get at the same time i guess.....just need to make sure you get alot of tries with smith/soward/lockyer to guarantee it etc....

overall a decent list of trophies with alot of very, VERY easy golds and silvers and likely an easy platinum.....win 300 games could take a fair while though (guess that's one way to keep people playign for a while.)

might actually give the game a play now :p

ok i've played a few games now and have a few impressions.

first off the team ratings seem a fair way off........especiallly with a release this far into the season you'd think it would be a bit more up to date.
for example dragons have the minor premiership sewn up yet have 7 teams ranked higher than them on 80 or above and another 3 ranked on the same as them with 79 :confused:
i guess a case could be made by only player ratings but it just looks out of place.
also qld and nsw SoO teams both rated at 89 each!?!?!? PUH-LEASE.

the game also seems to lack many new inclusions such as gasnier back with the dragons and aami park as a venue. (unless it's under a diff name and i just havn't noticed or something )
having the MCG as a fantasy ground is nice and was my first vunue played at in quick game ;)

one thing i first noticed while playing is the lack of player names either over head or completely out of the way like they have in fifa for example....(i know it flashes for a millisecond when they get the ball when attacking but it's not enough)
now i'm not a true rugby follower who watches every game but i do have a decent passing interest but don't know many player names and was hoping this could be a tool to help learn the names and have more of a grasp on the players i was using since they do have different skill sets.
seeing the name pop up for half a millisecond while they grab the ball isn't enough.
need to see names when they're tackling and possibly even just standing in their positions as well since where the name flashes for a millisecond when they get the ball when on attack is very unobtrusive it would be nice to see it better utilized.

now onto gameplay.
the gameplay i feel captures league quite well imo.
i'm a massive n00b at the game atm and the feel of it all is still getting to me but being on defense really feels like you're just being put through the motions until you get a chance to attack again and actually well............do something! (or at least try to...it's tough to get past them even on easy at my n00by stage)
defense = very lame/boring, attack = decent challange and moderately fun.
the controls seem quite well thought out but i still havn't got my head completely around it yet to get it working as it's intended.

the commentary in the game is not only horrible but extraordinarily repetitive.
the amount of times i've heard the crap about "that wasn't a forward pass blah blah blah" (btw it was...i did it and could see it myself) is crazy and i've only actually completed 4 games! (lost one on medium, drew one on medium and won 2 on easy.) don't know how the hell i'll be able to put up with it for a full season! (3 of those matches were in quick game)
in fact the music/sound in general is just completely irritating...the soundtrack is possibly the worst i've ever heard in a game and while i'm typin this just realised to put the tv on mute while it's sitting idle on the team selection menu....UGHHHHH.

the graphics are pretty decent (wasn't expecting anything extraordinary) and easily passible. can definitely tell differences between players when in closer.
the menus are quite crisply presented and nothing really seems too hard to function.
also the on field screen view seems exactly where you'd want it to be.
havn't even looked to see if it can be changed since it seems spot on already.

i'm still very much a n00b at the game but it seems to be a decent starting block to update/improve upon but as it stands probably only for real league fans.....will give it a fair go over the next couple of days but not entirely sure if it's going to stay in my games collection or not.

ok up to round 6 in the regular season playing on easy which i am now beginning to dominate (5-0 record but scores have become progressively more and more one sided in my favour).

working out the controls slowly realising you pretty much only need to hold boost at all times and quick pass has made things easier.
also not sure if it's my nUbness but even though i've had a couple of offloads i'm not entirely sure how i'm doing them since i try to pass during tackles all the time but it very, very, very rarely lets me.
i'm sure once i progress my team to medium it will require some more technical moves which will be interesting to see since when i try them now they never seem to be pulled off.....
i think maybe a tutorial type mode should've/could be implemented to show you exactly how to pull off/time these moves since i'm not entirely sure when to press it or how the end result is actually supposed to look when pulled off effectively.

one thing i must mention is that the kicking for field goal in general play is handled brilliantly with the slowing down of all on field movement while you aim on goals as you're running.
it kinda gives you an eerie sense that the whole crowd is solely focused on you and it's the most important moment of the match (even if it isn't) which is brilliant.
clearly that's how alot of running shots on goals will be handled in the afl game and i must say it's absolutely fantastic and something alot of us in here will like.

one little complaint i have is that waiting for the players to kick on goal after scoring a try.
there needs to be a button which can speed it up because it is really annoying waiting for them to complete the action once you have imput what you want done in. something like the speed up after taking a shot in tiger woods golf would be perfect.
it's needed not only for this game but no doubt for the afl game too.

another thing is that it doesn't really seem that clear on who a good substitute for certain players are without knowing all of their positions off by heart.
this one could more be an issue of needing to open my eyes more as i've only tried to do it a couple of times.

overall though i must say the more i play the more impressed i am.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 5 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

graphically the rugby game is fine - picked it up today. commentary is actually quite funny. however the controls are horrible and just confusing (especially defending)...they could have been simplified to produce a more user friendly game

Have you played the prevous RL games? (We mostly tried to implement the same controls as those. Initially we did have a new controller layout but focus tests showed that anyone with a history of playing those previous games did not cope with the change well.

Care to give a "full review" camo?

Do you think it's worth the $90 price tag or is it better to wait till it's $50?

that's a good reason - i never really played them (only a little bit of Ruby 2006). maybe im in the minority and just need to get use to them, as i havent really played much rugby in the past. so perhaps i just don't know much about the sport in general. my opinion was strictly of a newcomer to the sporting franchise.

still i found the multi player (local) really enjoyable and the free flowing nature of the game plus the camera angles (in my opinion excellent) - i think AFL will be a huge success - at least in AFL crazy states

I think you're going to find it very difficult to begin with but hopefully you'll get the hang of it. This release is a very defensive game and it is very difficult to score, even those wtih years of playing NRL games are finding it hard...

I would suggest starting on easy and working up from there after getting the controls. Playing from the side camera also makes it a lot easier to see where all the players are.

cheers for the heads up. i will give that a go

Feels more like a PS2 game than a PS3 game, not fun at all. Rugby league 2 was a way better game than this one.

Not impressed at all, just my opinion.

Not impressed with the rugby league game unfortunately.
