i'm sick of 1 goal constantly getting missed in these videos - Matty Knights 1995 semi final.

when you have no one between you and the goals, and you run 60mtrs and kick it from the goal line does not a great goal make.
when you baulk and run around people and still kick a goal ala mcguane, long, etc, then its great.
if noone is between you and the goal, noone chases or is not quick enough to catch you, you are just lucky. Garlett, Jetta

rant over.

ps this video has no credibility anyway as they showed Boomer Harvey hit the post. seems to be a video that they like doing when a small forward runs quickly and kicks a goal

Can't remember the exact moment during the 3rd quarter (IIRC) but I remember I think Tucky running towards the goal and kicking from about 40 out and getting a behind. He didn't appear to have any direct Carlton player there to pressure him and from memory Vickery was to his right about 10m away. A bit more poise, communication and experience and those 2 would have worked together to A) run in further making the shot a bit easier or B) run in, draw a defender and dish it off to the team mate to hopefully score. No need to blaze away when under no immediate pressure like that. That moment, we needed a goal as the Blues were surging and a goal would have helped right the ship.

Azza's miss in the second quarter also hurt us to from a momentum perspective. This year, apart from the GWS game, I think we have been guilty of easing up rather than pushing hard for the killer blow. We skipped out to a 30 or so point lead and had them on the ropes. We really should have smashed the nail into the coffin and put it beyond doubt but we didn't take our chances and let the Blues regroup which ultimately cost us the game. I'm not too fussed - that will hopefully come with more experience :thumbsu:

Cute idea, but is experience really the problem? Some of our young players, such as Vlaustin, were good, while some our most experienced, such as Riewoldt (W.O.G.), Newman, and Tuck, were poor; and, at the other end, we were carved up by a guy who's played 42 games and had scored a mere 10 goals

Think it was Ellis running with him (prob our best finishers on the run). One of so many opportunities lost. We blew it big time on Sunday.

My bad - Ellis definitely one of our best kicks on the run. I think thats why it hurt so much, knowing we had our chances and didn't take them. Hopefully the players can use the pain and channel it to further improvement next season

I'd say experience was one of the (not the only) reasons we lost. Dimma even said the players at times failed to stick to the gameplan which could be due to the occasion getting the better of them. I read going into the game, Carlton had 18 finals experienced players to our 4 and Malthouse was coaching hist 51st final to Dimma's first as senior coach.

On Riewoldt and Newman, while both were fairly poor, I also think both were clearly underdone or not 100% - they certainly didn't have ideal preparation missing the last game before finals. Same goes for Titch.
