Last year's draft will end up being a super draft for us. Derek Hine or whatever his name is knows how to spot talent. For all of the failings of the recruiting under a certain other recruiter, this man has to be given credit for spotting Rusling. Collingwood were the only ones who seriously knew about him. Essendon heard that Collingwood had seen (and hidden) this guy but it was all Johnny come lately for them. He will definitely end up proving to be much better value than 27.

Sean is cut from the old Magpie mould.

Tough, solid, strong and fast.

He has a stealy resolve that with time and experience will see him rise amongst his fellow Pies.

Taz has a alot to offer this boy and hopefully the two will make a great team. It would be great for Taz to be able to leave the forward line more often, knowing he has Pebbles, Travis and Sean as his targets when he takes those uncontested marks on the wing. This current outfit, fully fit, can run any team off the park.

If that is the case why did we wait until pick 20 or so to pick him whhen we also had pick 10 ?

Because we had him so well hidden we were 99% sure he'd last until the second round. At the time it was a surpridse to many that he went that high.

Werent the bombers really keen aswell??? Maybe if Monfries hadnt fallen that far (he was expected to go earlier) Rusling would be a bomber?

I dont think Rusling will be a pure midfielder however he could play off a wing/HFF like Embley does for us. Not sure he has the endurance yet but thats how you get the most players that size (190cm), they can push forward and kick a goal

I dont think Rusling will be a pure midfielder however he could play off a wing/HFF like Embley does for us. Not sure he has the endurance yet but thats how you get the most players that size (190cm), they can push forward and kick a goal

The report on him before the draft didn't even include the ability to play FF. He's added that to his bag of tricks since coming to Collingwood.

Sean is an athletic wing or half forward flanker who has only played one game for West Adelaide. He is powerful, has good pace and is good disposal by foot.

He played as a wing/flanker for essentially his whole school career.

Wonder why the papers lately have said watch out for him. really good by foot, faster than judd and even tazza i would guess. Heard he is pretty good below his knees and he can take a mark tackle etc. watch out next year with him having another preseason, plus the same for the likes of Clokes 2 + 3, egan, shaw, didak, tazza etc we will be back in force!!!

Thats the spirit. The Players are there, they just need to stay fit. We can not handle any more drafted unknowns. Madhouse needs to look at what we have got and play to their strengths. We aint the Weagles, we are COLLINGWOOD, pure, passionate Pies!!!

1990 only 2 players debuted - 1st
In most seasons where more than 6 players debuted we finish outside the finals race. In seasons with a settled side we play finals.
Its all about fitness and toughness and players learning that the Black and White jumper is like no other, it is a burden to some, but for those that can overcome this they will earn the adulation of an army of supporters like no other.
We suffered few injuries in 90, not because those guys were soft, on the contrary players like Pants, Ned, the Disciple, B R O W N, Mighty Mick, Wrighty, Dougy, the Tonys, Monkey, Crossisca, Denis the menace etc etc were as tough a team as I have seen (Thats a tough call, I know, when you look at teams that had the likes of Manassa, Magro, Picken, Moore, Carman and Kink and I never saw McHales's MACHINE play so they are excluded).

What I am trying to say is, keep the team close and make em hard. Vic Park is the only place to do this. Lexus would be good for Netball or perhaps indoor lawn bowls, but footy aint about facilities, its all about a lack of them and HARD WORK.
