True and its a shame. Just look at JHF first game for Port round 1 against Lions how he played. Him and the other half backs, Farrell and Houston just played perfect run on plays that game... When Burton was on he was good but its like he didn't want to get hurt or physical.. confidence issues or something.. Could of been an elite player if he put in the 110% effort and hard yards to be an elite player. Shame really.
The game where Ryan Burton completely blanketed Charlie Cameron out of the match? There wouldn't be a full AFL team anywhere if you want to criticise him for that game.

I have a few moments that I’ll remember him for. A great contested mark v Geelong in the 2020 QF and two moments in the 2021 PF that helped set the tone for that game. He should’ve been benched and told in no uncertain terms that if it happened again he wouldn’t play again that year with the importance of the match. An indictment on the coach.

I would've given him 1 year as depth, kept him in the SANFL and paid him minimum chips. He was definitely in line to be delisted though, so fine with that. I just would've done it next year. To be fair as well, we might've even offered him a base deal like that and he didn't accept it. I expect he'll be on an AFL list next year in some capacity. Don't expect he'll last more than a year though.

The only caveat to that is his body, he looked like he just couldn't run at times. Just constantly running like he was protecting his hammies from going ping. So maybe his body is totally shot and then in that case he's completely done.

He was decent for a while but never had the steel to be a really great player. His body continually breaking down in 2020 to the point where he left us a man down in the prelim will be my core memory of him unfortunately.

RIP the Wingard trade.
We are still benefiting from the wingard trade I think, the pick used on Duursma, then traded him for BZT.

Didn't criticise him for that game, read it again, I was saying that is an example of him playing a good game and doing his role

i think his back is toast, looked like he couldn't even bend over to pick the ball up over the last few years.

Good move, talented player but either wouldn't or couldn't get out of a jog the last few years.

We had far too many half back flankers not too long ago.

Now Houston, Burton & Williams are gone/going.

That leaves us with Bergman (sometimes mid), Rozee, Farrell, Evans, Sinn & Burgoyne

Probably still too many of the same type of player.

I’ll always struggle to understand players like Burton who have so much talent but don’t live up to it.

Injuries. It's not a matter of him simply not wanting it enough. I think people underestimate the hyper competitive nature of anyone who makes it to the pinnacle of their sport.

Watching him jog to contests and not go in hard indicates that he was physically incapable of doing what was needed. No-one plays 100+ AFL games is soft - mentally or physically.

Such a disappointment, shame his body was crap. When he was good he was exactly what we need.

His first few years were really good but injury and just his general form really hurt him in the last 3 years or so.

Bergman will be full time mid next year. Sinn is a back pocket. Burgoyne is a winger. Rozee may even go back to full time mid this year. We certainly aren't oversupplied for HBFers

Sounding a bit Sensational there Chewy, he’s been on borrowed time for a while.
Not surprised he got the arse whatsoever.

Played 15 games last year, 22 the year prior.
Really only missed games this year due to injury. More than likely gets an extension if Carr wasn't in charge.

Tbh though, I dont really think he deserved to play those games.
