For a few years now Ryan Griffen has been talked about in glowing terms. But he is yet to deliver. Every year I get caught up in the hype. He's primed and he's going to fire is the message we continually hear. I've fallen for it and this year I'm wondering whether I fall for it again? He will be generously priced in '08 but can he have a consistant year where he scores upwards of 80 points a game?

Your thoughts?

There was an article in the Herald Sun about 10 days ago and it said that he wasn't expected to leave the rehab group and return to full training until after the new year. With a limited pre season after an injury riddled year like he has had, my advice would be to look at Sherman or Schammer who have had good pre seasons and will be at a similar price.

I would get him if he was down as BACK, any chance of that happening? However if he is down as MID, no...

I'm pretty sure he will be in the midfielder category. He may go down as one of those player's that had alot of potential and never delivered. Obviuosly he has had injury problems. Lets hope for his sake he can get it together because he has shown glimpses of what he can do.

I would probably get Griffen if he was a back, but if he's a mid which I think he probably will be, I'm not gonna risk him..

i picked him last year and he really struggled, he only averaged 55. where as i was hoping he would average between 70-80 so i could upgrade him.

i think he will be cheap this year but weather i pick him or not will depend on how much of a pre season he does and how his form is in the nab cup.

At the price he would be at its a pretty good get all things considered. Yes he had a bad season last year, yes he wont be having a full pre season. But tell me other mids of his quality that you could get around his price tag.

He will start full training in early Jan so that gives him plenty of time to get ready. And its not like he hasnt been running. You would be surprised with the amount of running they do in the rehab group.

The way I usually operate is I start with my absolute must have bargains and then fill in the gaps with solid players. Griffen will be a bargain, but not a must-have. These conditions would be necessary for me to pick him up...

1) He is listed as a back
2) I've blown a lot of cash, but hesitant to undo my choices to free up more cash
3) He fits nicely into my budget & overall strategy

Put a line through him now then. No chance of him being listed as a backman.

Short answer - no
Long answer - nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

dont pick him

Im gonna pick him up, i reckon he'll have a good enough season for me to make a bit of money off him whilst scoring a decent amount of points at the same time.

Sort of changed my mind. If he is a back he will be considered. Although, if he is a midfielder, no chance of me picking him.
