With the Doggies looking for premiership glory in 2010, you would think they will win alot of games and therefore, score alot of fantasy points.

Every year, the dominant midfields of the AFL are the ones that rack up these points. The Dogs this year have Boyd, Cross, a fit Cooney, tagger Picken, Eagleton, Ward and of course players like Higins and Giansiracusa who will have their turn as well.

One player nobody mentions is Griffen though. This is probably because he has failed to live up to expectation in the past, with alot of pressure put on him due to him being #3 pick in the 04 draft.

In 2010 however, his 6th year (which historically is the year top 10 picks play their best footy), can Griffen deliver in the world of fantasy footy.

He's 372K in DT, with previous averages of 85 last year and 78 in 2008.

In SC he is 470K, with previous averages of 89 last year and 81 in 2008.

Finally, Griffen also lost his old man this time last year IIRC, so that may spur him on even more this year.

Thoughts?

The Doggies have won heaps of games for 2 years now, but 3rd best both times.

To be honest, I'm gunna pass on him for now. I like Ball more, but this will play on my mind.

Just bloody great. I thought i'd finally finished my side until I read this!!

Some impressive NAB cup scores he has and could be a bit of a unique pick. Might take him rather than Vince because every man and his dog has Vince..

Back to the bloody drawing board then

Same here. Now Ball v Griffin is playing on my mind heaps.

So far he has looked really good. Splitting his time in the middle and then dropping back to half back and surging forward from there.

His half back role is initially where he played for us and looked very promising, I think he looks quite comfortable in this role, I don't think he is likely to be tagged much because his role doesn't have him following the football everywhere all the time like someone as Cooney or Boyd would be more likely to do.

Just a guess, but I think Griffen as well as Harbrow doing there fair share of rebounding from the back 50 will push Gilbee out of position to some extent and up onto a wing somewhere possibly and as a result of this Griffen might start to see some scores that Gilbee used to get off Half Back a few years ago.

My early tip would be take Griffen over Gilbee in SC this year.

I'm yet to pick him personally but I'm very tempted.

im seriously considering him, his finals were very good from memory as have been his pre seaosn games

Wont be this years Montagna - will rise in value and may end up being a 5th/6th mid keeper or a late season upgrade to a proven gun - will avg 100 at best. He is very good value at his starting price and he does provide a differential as hardly anyone has him, jst dnt expect him to pull 140+ scores, he jst doesnt find enough of the ball to get those big scores.

griffen and wells are in the same boat. heatbreakers for years and will go up in value before we know it

Well not really! Wells is in the injury boat and Griffen is in the boat which really hasnt reached it's full potential.

Griffen is an outstanding footballer, but goes missing too often. He'll cop a tag when firing, no doubt about that as he can be that damaging. Cooney obviously will cop a tag at times and also Higgins, so the only upside for all three of these players if they are all firing at the same time.

Griffen is by no means the next Montagna as if you have a look at Joeys previous years, he really just had a bad 2008.....He's numbers the previous year were good averaging 103 in 2007.

He's a good pick but also risky, not sure how he fits into a lot of structures this year, sure as hell doesnt fit into mine.

Griffen i've always thought about having in my teams, but i think he just misses out. Despite playing good footy i just can't see him pushing up towards avg'ing around 100+ throughout the season. Although his NAB Cup games have been promising score wise so far.

Doesn't get over 25 possessions often enough and almost never over 30. Has some trouble with a tag but is strong enough to learn to cope with this as he develops. Disposal efficiency? I'm not sure but would guess it's lower than most elites. Hard to pick him based on stats.
