Who was better? Having a debate about it on another forum.
Personally, I reckon the Enz absolutely SHYT all over the House. CH had very catchy tunes. The Enz's tunes were just as catchy, but with far far higher levels of quirk and musicality.

Can listen to the Crowdies in just about any mood and enjoy the tunes. They're unchallenging and beautifully crafted but a clear cut above most commercially viable pop rock of the last 15 years.

But Split Enz were a musical journey with far more diversity and scope in terms of how far they took their sound, they featured infinitely better players and there were some amazing ideas - especially production wise - going into how those tunes were crafted and recorded.

Its not even a contest.

Very, very fond of both of them (and any other work by the Finn brothers) but for me it's definitely Split Enz.

It's helped by the fact that I'm actually a bigger fan of Tim than Neil but it's mostly that Crowded House have beautiful, melodic songs that just draw you in but Split Enz had that, plus a vibrancy and uniqueness. I consider the Enz a more challenging, interesting and enjoyable band.
