I believe that Hamill will make a decision prior to the final list deadlines depending on how his recovery from the latest op goes.

Few people are holding their breaths waiting for a retirement announcement. He's a mercenary of the highest order and will see out his contract, even if it means never pulling on a pair of boots again.

So be it.

Hasn't been a factor in our side for the past year, so no real shock if he doesn't play on.

We'll be 6-10th place again next year, but looking all good for 2-3 years time of we can get a few younguns in the draft.

Agree with that. You need a top-up in your midfield (you have the grunt but not the pace) and some key defenders. And of course, rucks. Home grown - your record with recycled players is disastrous.

Good recovery from 4-7 gotta be a strong chance for top 8 in 2008.New coach new gameplan don't see them heading south personally.

I think they've got some issues which need addressing. To go forward, they may need to go down a little first.

1 - Lack of goalkicking options besides Riewoldt and Kosi. Gehrig will be a big loss, 60 goal kickers per season don't exactly grow on trees. Time for Fergus Watts to show why he was a 1st round pick, but he hasn't grasped the brief chances he's had at AFL level. They desperately need a medium sized forward who can kick 2 goals a game e.g a Corey Jones or a Steve Johnson.

2 - Lack of speed through the midfield. Don't really have any dashers who can run and carry and break the lines, Montagna and Harvey, maybe. Should be their #1 need in the draft.

3 - Lack of depth. If the likes of Hamill and Gardiner can't contribute, then they don't have a lot of fallback options, especially when their drafting and trades haven't been so good over the past 3 seasons.

So much is dependent on the pre-season, and having a good one. They need the 2 Clarke's and Luke Ball 100% fit. Otherwise, I don't think they'll make the 8 next season.

thanks to the saintsational man for this bit of research

So here they are in no particular order.....

Justin Koschitzke 24
Nick Riewoldt 24
Brendan Goddard 22
Luke Ball 23
Nick Dal Santo 23
Samuel Fisher 25
Sam Gilbert 21
Jason Gram 23
Lenny Hayes 27
Leigh Montagna 23
Matthew Maguire 23

Average Age 23.5

sure we probably need to fill out at the edges but fundamentally a relatively decent period of time ahead of these players.

gardiner, hamill, max won't be there in 5 years, and concievable harvey may call it at 41 but you never know, he might go the extra year :D
