Just noticed when NAS takes that final mark, Sharman and Hilly are already hugging each other at the top of the goalsquare hahaha
I think that’s because the forward unit shifted the pack (at NAS direction) to create the space for NAS to run into. It really was a team play.

Yeap all the Melbourne players immediately turned and ran full pelt into defence for the bomb and Ro just hits up Nas at half forward. Beautiful play.
At the half way point of the season he would have just put it on his boot and kicked it over his shoulder. It would have come down 17 seconds after the quarter ended with 39 players underneath it. Progress! 🤣

Before I proffer some thoughts, a question for those who didn't want us to win that:

What should the players have done differently in the last quarter to ensure we didn't win the game?
Stick with the game plan.

Stick with the game plan.
Reckon the only period where the game plan was implemented as instructed was the last quarter.

I'll skip to my point: if you can't see the benefits of yesterday, you have lost (or never had in the first place) the ability to enjoy sport.

For the ones that moan every week how the commentators are biased against us , don't suppose you noticed how much they were willing us on wanting us to get up , the tide will quickly turn if we can continue to play good footy because as much as a lot on her think that everyone in the media hates us they don't , they are just disappointment in us like we all have been at times.
Sure we are not going to be able to put out performances like that every week but as long as we try and play a similar attacking style i think we will win more of them over

Maybe this has already been mentioned, but something that really stood out after watching the last few minutes again.... when Nas took the hanger and kicked the goal to equalise, everyone wanted to celebrate... everyone except Nas. It was clear he still had a job to do. It was clear he wanted to win. Unbelievable focus for a young guy. F*cking impressive.

Absolute brilliant last qtr.

Was listening to it on the way home from the Pies game, couldn't wait to get home to watch the replay of that last qtr. It didn't disappoint.

NWM is a superstar. You absolutely must keep him.

Dees were a blubbering, panicky, totally unprofessional mess in that last qtr. Hilarious.

Might have to watch that last qtr again. It was so much fun to watch.

I still think round 14 2009 was the best win (and game) I’ve ever seen in the flesh.

The 09 prelim v the dogs is close too.

I was there for both of those, I reckon if I was there yesterday I might feel differently. Also every chance I’d have left at 3qtr time in disgust too.

Just put those final minutes on replay.

We have one of the best players in the competition for the last 20 years in NWM

Smokey for the brownlow, if I might suggest.

So, the first three quarters...

  • Caminiti forward and one less tall was a mistake for three quarters. Heath was just showing glimpses of being a viable down the line get out target and then we go small. Didn't work, but looked better with Tauru than Caminiti forward. I'd think about bringing Keeler (or Dougal if fit) back next week to play in defence and keep Tauru forward for a couple of weeks. We need to free Wilkie up to intercept.
  • A different midfield challenge against Gawn (who won but didn't dominate), Oliver, Trac and Viney as opposed to the Cats mids who aren't clearance beasts. So we struggled, particularly Steele who had been good recently.
  • Disappointing to see Collard get hurt - he had done a couple of nice things in a quarter.

Then they swap Hall and Steele, Melbourne get tired and a little comfortable with the score, and the following players just do a lot better after a poor first three quarters: Jones, Sharman, Hill, Clark, Wood. Hall changes the midfield and everyone forward of defence starts playing better. Unfortunately a broken arm kept me from attending but after Hill kicks his goal, I say "if we can get another one in a minute or two we are a sneaky chance here".

And, of course, Nas. Until the last minute I had Hall as clearly our best player then Nas, but that last minute will go down in the folklore of the club. It's been so long since I saw one of our blokes want the moment then own every last bit of it. I was laughing the rest of the evening.

Also, just in case we needed confirmation, that's the end of that Melbourne group. They're totally done.
