Notwithstanding his actual form it's a bit sad if he felt forced into this by his headknock. He sounds reasonably at peace with it so I hope -

"I've got a pretty keen interest in the real estate side of things," he said. "I've done a few courses along the way, so that's probably where I'll look to transition into.

The comments regarding we would/could 'de-melbourne' him were quite arrogant, I thought.

Very sad to hear he has not been able to play since the headknock. A strange pick up in my opinion, but footy is not everything and happy to hear he has other interests.

All the best!

Delisted free agent, nothing lost apart from a potential rookie spot. Meh.
I'm about to write about it in your good bad ugly thread. Essentially we pushed Hunt out the door citing there not being a spot available for him.... Then bring in Blease. I know which one I'd have kept.

I'd hoped he turned into a sneaky gem for us, but he obviously couldn't give what they hoped given he couldn't crack a go when we were down to the dregs.

Must have been a fair old head hit he copped.

Anyway another spot on the list is free

So that's already four senior list spots vacant - McIntosh, Rivers, Hartman, Blease - as well as least 3 more senior guys, you'd think.

Sheesh. I hope the club is certain of recruiting a handful from other clubs because this isn't the draft to be taking 4+ picks into.

The word 'super draft' is banded around a lot these days..... and this is certainly not the time to do it from all reports.

Maybe there will only be 1 or 2 more leaving, with another few asked to stay on one more year? Oh dear.

It seems Stokes and Kelly are certainly gone and I'd expect this to be announced before Saturday.

Maybe all of SJ, Bartel, Enright and Mackie play on?

That would leave six list spots before we make our delistings, so likely 7-8 spots in total.
Four players from other clubs (Danger, Hendo, SSelwood and Zac Smith?) and three draftees??

I cant see all of Kelly, Enright and Mackie retiring regardless as our depth while be shot down back.

My opinion (no basis for it) is that we will nab maybe two of those players you mentioned, therefore will have five draftees.

Good call by cats_09 yesterday on this very topic.

Like a few, I hoped he'd provide us something but the writing seemed to be on the wall reasonably early on when, like people have already mentioned, he couldn't crack a gig even when we had a number of injuries.

All the best to the guy and hopefully the impact of the concussion doesn't cause him any issues down the track.

Don't like the idea of a head knock ending someone's career. Sounds painful and quite distressing.

I wish him all the best going forward, shame he wasn't able to play as good as he looked at times consistently enough. Whatever the reasons might be. He still played AFL, had a couple of impressive games, and that is a fair bloody effort for anyone.

No, true. My bad. Meant a very late draft pick (i.e. the first one we passed in).

Or we could have delisted one less player (Hunt, Hamling, Brown, or Schroder, for instance) and not recruited him.

We agree on this one. I think the argument here was that Blease would have cost considerably less than Hunt, though, and the club was perhaps trying to clear space for all the players they're targeting now.

Very naive to think that a player who couldn't crack a game at Melbourne of all places after so many years in the system would be able to do better at Geelong. Paul Roos is no idiot. Makes you think about the club's assessment of other players.

None of them had done enough to stay, I include Hamling and Hunt in that.

We were right to take a punt on a different player rather than keeping deadwood regardless.

Really? I think Hunt had shown plenty. Certainly more than Blease.

And Hamling was a young KPD who we knew would take time to develop. Geelong's three senior talls were also pretty good, so it was a hard side for him to break into. Not persisting with him after the few years of development was odd, especially given the lack of young tall backs coming through. Those years in the Geelong system are now paying off for the Dogs.
