Sam Newman is a Geelong great. He played 300 games for Geelong and he is one of only two to do this. One of the better ruckman to have played the game, he was incredibly tough as a player and is a member of the GFC Team of the Century.

Unfortunately, his conduct off the field does his good on-field reputation no justice.

The way he acts in the media, at times, is childish. His interview with Mark Thompson today only amplifies my opinion.

People say he asks the tough questions...are they really that tough? Maybe the reason why people don't answer them is because they are irrelevant. Did he honestly expect an answer from Wayne carey or Glenn Archer on the Footy Show in 2004 when he questioned the two on their relationship? Does he honestly expect Thompson to give him answers in relation to his stupid questions about his future?

Sam, you are a Geelong legend, but you are fast losing respect in the eyes of many.

Bomber was asked about - he said he was happy to talk about the team but Sam wanted to talk about him. I think Bomber's had enough of that this week.

Try to find out the radio station it was on. If it was Sam it would be MMM? And look at their website. Unfortunately MMM may be one of the three radio stations in existence that doesn't podcast (or for people like me who don't own iPods: doesn't record their programs as MP3's for free download).

*UPDATE*

Looks like they don't podcast their footy shows.

Stupid MMM.

Sam was asking good questions. A win last night doesnt change the fact we are going nowhere as a club.

Bomber was acting like a tool, yet again after a great win against a club 16th on the ladder. NAB cup anyone?

Did you even hear the interview chapmanmagic35? Telling me you think the questions he asked in relation to his future at the club and wether he would lave because they are not having success = irrelevant? Bull**** they are. I wanna know what Bomber is doing, hes had 7 years and really done nothing except in 04 when we made a prelim.

Ah, but it was such a great win last night eh? :thumbsd:

Bomber acted like a child, wouldnt asnwer the questions, hanged up and wanted to talk about the win last night. Who bloody cares? We'll struggle to win 8+ games this year and we beat bloody essedon.

Soupy, if Sam Newman really gave a crap why didn't he go to the Bomber press conference on Thursday or arrange for a one on one interview with Thompson during the week? Of course Newman has the right to ask Bomber any question he wants but for example asking Thompson that question about buying a house in Geelong is irrelevant, not 'tough' questioning by Sam.

Needless to say Bomber should have handled it better than he did. It wasn't comfortable listening to, especially the negative and personal manner in which it ended - which was Newman's fault.

And at no stage did Bomber say that it was a great win for the club.

Sam was asking good questions? Give me a break...

If you are defending him, you are probably just as much of a fool as Sam can be himself...

Obviously you are just as negative...

Exactly...I just don't think asking personal questions are 'tough' questions, like some people have suggested on the AFL board.

Then don't read it, and don't reply.

Just saying what I think about Newman...

im not having a go at you but what you think of sammy is also the opinion of many others and not entirely new. he is a buffoon of the highest order and not even deserving of a thread on this board.

I think Sam speaks an awful lot of truth, and in a week where many of you were asking your own questions about Mark Thompson on this very forum, Sam Newman was voicing those questions. I'd be very happy for him to ask the same tough questions of Alistair Clarkson at this point, because neither coach is performing.
I heard the interview, and while there was a lot of pointless strong-arming (particularly the "I've done more for Geelong than you ever have" argument) I found a lot of the questions to be very relevant. Who's interested in the game the night before? We saw it... we heard the after match press conference. If Thompson agreed to that interview and didn't think that some tough questions were going to be asked of him, then he's a bigger idiot than Sam Newman will ever be.

I see what you mean, but I struggle to comprehend why he asks them when he knows he won't answer them...

Besides obviously the controversy thing...
