Brett Anderson recently did a list rating who are the top prospects for this years draft and had Sam at #12. So we would effectively have to use our first round pick to get him. Might even have to upgrade our first pick or trade for another first round pick to get him. I couldnt handle seeing him in a different jumper to black and white, especially the scum, thought makes me want to barf.

I'm really looking forward to our off season. Acquiring danger, getting one of Shiel or treloar, people want us with aish now too for payback as well as using a top 10 pick in the draft.

Should be interesting times ahead

Considering we have no play on him and I'm heavily in the corner of trading out our first rounder this year he's not all that relevant, IMO.
I'm with scodog. We don't need more kids. Need to start getting some quality talent in that's ready to go and we need to trade our first pick with that.

Also with news that Charlie Dixon will be a free agent next year. I don't know how you guys think, but I love him. I'd have a go at him next year which will help our key forward issues.

Cloke-dixon-moore.

Don't mind if I do

We must get Dangerfield, I know he's most likely going to Geelong but we really need him.
Imagin this:
RR: Witts, Pendles, Greenwood
C: Dangerfield, Adams, Sidebottom

And also rotating through the middle: swanny, broomhead, de goey, crisp.
Danger is the perfect fit for our needs imo.

You're forgetting Freeman as well...

He also comes with a 1 million+ price tag and a longer deal than we would want to give.

And given that I don't think he's body will hold up till even 30, he would need to be a premiership winning player.

If at the end of the year we feel like we can contend in the next 2 years then he is a viable option, but if it is looking like this club will peak in 2018-19 then we should look elsewhere.

While I agree with you to a point, why do we have to be a considered a contender to go after the best free agents of the year? If we can afford them and they are willing to come to our team, then why not go after the best players, they will fast track our improvement and at the same time fast track us to being a contender. I might be wrong, but I believe we should be striving to go after the best players, providing we can afford them and not risk team harmony.

Unless there has been a rule change I don't know about, I assumed that if he is a father son we can just use our next pick after the highest bidder to draft him. If we have multiple father sons in the same year, then whatever our second round and third round picks are we could still draft them. So even if we finish the year in the 8, we still get first option.

He's not eligible for father/son. His dad only played 12 games.

I just mean in comparison to getting a 500k 22 year old who will be a major factor when we are actually contending, aswell as not pushing any players out the door due to the massive salary cap he would take up.

If Danger was our only option then yeah maybe we should jump at him, but he's not. I'd rather take a stab at one of the GWS boys, maybe Aish or even someone that isn't on the radar yet.

To be clear I love Danger and if we feel we are ready to contend he would have a profound impact on this clubs premiership tilt, I just have my reservations about our premiership window and his body.

Good rationale paying overs for Danger could cause us headaches later on, the way he plays he might only get to 30-31 before he starts falling apart

Totally agree.
Getting in quality free agents, usually means over paying, over committing in the number of years of the contact and breaking the salary structure at the club. There is a time and place for that but only when it will catapult the list from a good side to a real Premiership threat.

We are not there yet. Save our powder for another year or two at least.

Its not right that the grandson of a Collingwood premiership captain could play anywhere other than Collingwood
He needs to invoke the Chad Wingard rule;)

Warren Tredrea would have been a pie too, would have been handy in 02 and 03

Realistically, if Weideman gets drafted anywhere apart from Collingwood - he will probably tell them that he will be seeking a trade to Collingwood after his contract runs out. That is providing we want him and he is the type of player we need.
I highly doubt the Grandfather and Father would want otherwise.
You can't have Grandson of a Collingwood Captain playing elsewhere.
Imagine him with a Carlton jumper on. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuk !
