While not an Ayres fan, it remains early days yet and I don't think sacking the coach mid season is a solution, let alone after one game........Do people really think that is a solution?

What needs to be acknowledged is some level of responsibility on the part of the coach. I get sick and tired of hearing after every loss we have ever had under Ayres that we lacked "physicality", lacked intensity and our "conversion rate" was poor. It is the same old story every time. Has the bloke ever acknowledged a mistake? I think that this is one reason why Gary is unpopular with supporters.

At the same time I think we have seen some classic coaching blunders, both in matchups and tactics (ie. the man on man kick ins). Of course, none of them are ever in any way responsible for a loss.

Like it or not the coach carries the can. If the players are performing below par, he is the person who must do something to change that.

On Sunday's performance we are a 75 point worse side than the Kangaroos. Player for player there is no way we are that bad, so something is wrong somewhere. The coaching staff have had how many weeks to prepare the players for round 1?

The solution is not for the supporters to get stuck into the players. A true supporter sticks by the team and the players through good times and bad, and at the appropriate time, should on field performances warrant it, calls for the coaches head on a plate. :D

But we have not yet reached that stage yet.

PS. Gary - strong tip. Please do not play Carey at CHF, Ronnie on a wing and Sarge in defence this week. If you do and we are beaten this week, please, please don't say it was because we lacked intensity and "physicality".

And what exactly does the coach do, sit back and relax??????

did he look like he was relaxing by the pool, drinking pina colada's at 3/4 time?

let's see the players stand up like men, and perform professionally with heart and dignity - if that doesn't get it done, let's look to see why.

Unless Ayres has lost the players, of which there is no sign, it's daft to blame him. unless you're hoping for a magic quick fix, I don't see a lack of heart as a coaching box issue.

take the players off the pedestal, and let them be held accountable.

So the players have suddenly lost it? Are we really a 75 point worse side than the Kangaroos? How many months did we have to prepare for the game?

No, the coach was not relaxing by the pool at 3/4 time.....but what he said and did obviously had little effect in the last quarter where we were an embarrasment.

The coach is responsible for matchups, gameplan etc. My point is:

1. do we ever hear the coach accept responsibility for getting it wrong?

2. how can the players be accountable but not the coach? Why do we pay a coach several hundred thousand $ a year if he is not accountable and not expected to come up with the answers?

3. maybe the players are sick of playing out of position and are as frustrated as everyone else seems to be with the gameplan?

Lack of heart is certainly a coaching box issue. The coach has to come up with the answers and be held accountable for performances like Sunday.

The point of the thread is that we get the same tired old answers about "physicality" and "intensity at the football" we have been hearing for years now. Throw in "conversion rate" and you have pretty much got the full vocabulary.

I have time for people who are big enough to admit they make mistakes, and are clever enough to learn from them. If other posters think this description fits Gary Ayres then they are entitled to that opinion.

I fully support the players, coach and club and like every supporter want us to succeed. As long as we start winning well and get back to where we should be with our current squad, that is in the top 4, then we will all be happy.
